Mission

Changing Conversations aims to address poverty by offering couples counseling to keep families together, making them two-income households; offering career counseling; and offering financial coaching. This is done in a Christian community to both Christians and non-Christians. In addition, we "adopt" up to three families at a time and do intensive work with them on conflict, job/career readiness, financial coaching, and parenting coaching to help them stay together and avoid a cycle of broken families. Our work ranges from couples conflict to how to teach elementary students math.

Program accomplishments

  • Provided pastoral counseling to over 30 couples, counseling them on marriage and family. 25 couples were at or near separation/divorce/break up. 4 became engaged to be married. 1 divorced. 2 filed for divorce. Of the three that either divorced or filed for divorce, all three were separated and leaning toward divorce, which is the majority of our couples, and these three reconciled briefly but ultimately dissolved the marriage. Intervened with three youth who were demonstrating depressive tendencies and/or risky behavior, ranging from depression to alcohol abuse. 100% of youth have met goals Adopted 6 couples, providing weekly therapy to them free of charge and discounted sessions by 50% for three other families.
