Program accomplishments

  • The following narrative describes the significant program service activities and accomplishments of the Valerie J. Maynard Foundation ("the Foundation or VJMF") during the 2025 tax year. 1. Inventory and Cataloging ProjectIn 2025, the Valerie J. Maynard Foundation worked with a team of archivists from a partner organization to digitize a series of papers in the VJMF collection. This work resulted in scanning and inventorying a significant number of documents. 2. Valerie J. Maynard Legacy Internship ProgramThe Valerie J. Maynard Legacy Internship provides participants with foundational skills to support the long-term stewardship of an artist's legacy. Over the course of the program, interns gain practical experience in the management, documentation, and care of a collection of art, artifacts, ephemera, and archival materials. Current training modules emphasize inventorying, cataloging, digitization, art handling, preservation, and oral history methodology. The internship has two formats: a nine-week Summer Intensive and a One-Year Cycle, operated in special partnership with the Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA), in which interns divide their time between the Foundation and the BMA. 3. Born-Digital Materials InitiativeInitial outcomes of this effort included the retrieval of files from various electronic devices, including a Samsung point-and-shoot camera, a 2020 MacBook, a 2015 Mac desktop and an iPhone. All retrieved data was backed up across external hard drives.4. Ecosystem Development InitiativeThroughout 2025, the Foundation cultivated an expanding network of institutional and community partnerships to strengthen its archival, cultural, and neighborhood-facing programming.
