Program accomplishments

  • The Get Active: Dart Tournaments aimed to foster community connections through engaging and fun social interactions. Participants had the opportunity to compete in dart games while meeting neighbors and strengthening local relationships. The event attracted 8 participants and engaged approximately 20-30 spectators, creating a vibrant atmosphere for community bonding. Although no funds were raised, the primary goal was to enhance community impact. We successfully partnered with local businesses, including Dochet and Swell Bar, to promote awareness and encourage future community engagement. Notably, the event incurred no expenses, allowing all efforts to focus on community enrichment.
  • The First Annual Friendsgiving was a potluck celebration held at Fun First HQ, bringing the community together for a festive Thanksgiving experience. Participants enjoyed family-friendly games, including team relay races, musical chairs, Simon Says, and karaoke, along with arts and crafts activities like painting and decorating pine cones. The event successfully hosted 37 participants, fostering connections and community spirit. While we did not secure local sponsorship, the community generously provided all food, drinks, and art supplies, resulting in no expenses for the event. This collaborative effort highlighted the strength of community ties and was the most impactful event of the year, embodying our mission of community betterment. It inspired lasting connections, encouraged lifelong learning, and celebrated the diverse fabric of our neighborhoods.
  • We hosted a National Night Out event in front of Fun First HQ, designed to enhance community engagement and safety awareness. The evening included introductions for neighbors to connect, a safety presentation on the "12 Ways to Prepare for an Emergency" facilitated by the Oakland Fire Department, and a distribution of community resources, such as information on food banks, parks, local markets, and free museum days. The event attracted about 25 attendees, with 14 community members actively participating in the safety presentation. This campaign aims to foster relationships between law enforcement and community members to create safer neighborhoods. This year, we received support from the City of Oakland, including caution tape, a first aid kit, stickers, and bouncy balls, enhancing the event's engagement. The event incurred no expenses and did not raise funds, but it marked our first community education-focused initiative and was well-received by attendees, highlighting the community's appreciation for safety awareness and resource sharing.
