MAD PARK COMMUNITY IS A GRASSROOTS MOVEMENT ROOTED IN CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA, DEDICATED TO BREAKING DOWN HEALTH BARRIERS FOR FAMILIES AND YOUTH. WE BELIEVE THAT WELLNESS IS A BIRTHRIGHT, NOT A PRIVILEGE, AND OUR WORK IS CENTERED AROUND MAKING FITNESS, NUTRITION, AND EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING ACCESSIBLE TO ALL. THROUGH ENGAGING PROGRAMS, HANDS-ON EDUCATION, AND REAL-WORLD SOLUTIONS, WE EMPOWER FAMILIES TO TAKE OWNERSHIP OF THEIR HEALTH AND BUILD A FOUNDATION OF WELLNESS THAT EXTENDS FOR GENERATIONS. OUR GOAL IS TO CREATE SUSTAINABLE PATHWAYS TO BETTER HEALTH, ENSURING THAT EVERY CHILD, PARENT, AND EDUCATOR HAS THE TOOLS THEY NEED TO THRIVE. "WE ARE NOT JUST AN ORGANIZATION--WE ARE A MOVEMENT LED BY COMMUNITIES, FOR COMMUNITIES. WE BELIEVE THAT TRUE CHANGE HAPPENS WHEN FAMILIES, EDUCATORS, AND YOUTH ARE GIVEN THE TOOLS TO MAKE WELLNESS A GENERATIONAL WAY OF LIFE."
Program accomplishments
- LIVE WELL - NUTRITION AND CULINARY WELLNESSLIVE WELL IS MAD PARK COMMUNITY'S NUTRITION AND CULINARY WELLNESS PROGRAM SERVING SCHOLARS IN GRADES K THROUGH 8. OUR PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO BUILD FOOD LITERACY, HEALTHY HABIT FORMATION, AND CULINARY CONFIDENCE THROUGH HANDS-ON, CULTURALLY RELEVANT EXPERIENCES THAT ARE HONEST, ANDACCESSIBLE. SESSIONS ARE DELIVERED BY MAD PARK INSTRUCTORS IN 45 TO 50 MINUTE BLOCKS ACROSS SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY SETTINGS.MOST OF THE SCHOLARS WE SERVE HAVE NEVER HAD A REAL CONVERSATION ABOUT FOOD, WHERE IT COMES FROM, WHAT IT DOES TO THEIR BODY, OR WHY IT MATTERS. LIVE WELL CHANGES THAT. WE GET IN THE KITCHEN WITH KIDS. WE TALK ABOUT REAL FOOD IN REAL LANGUAGE. WE CONNECT WHAT THEY EAT TO HOW THEY FEEL,HOW THEY FOCUS, AND HOW THEY MOVE THROUGH THE WORLD. IN 2025, MAD PARK DELIVERED 46 NUTRITION AND CULINARY WELLNESS SESSIONS ACROSS SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY SETTINGS REACHING 330 SCHOLARS ACROSS GRADES K THROUGH 8. THE HABITS SCHOLARS BUILD IN LIVE WELL ARE ONES THEY CAN CARRY HOME, SHARE WITH THEIR FAMILIES, AND GROW WITH FOR LIFE.
- MOVE WELL - PHYSICAL MOVEMENT AND RUN CLUB MOVE WELL IS MAD PARK COMMUNITY'S PHYSICAL MOVEMENT PROGRAM SERVING SCHOLARS IN GRADES K THROUGH 8. THE PROGRAM IS BUILT ON ONE CORE BELIEF: EVERY SCHOLAR DESERVES ACCESS TOMOVEMENT EXPERIENCES THAT MOST KIDS IN THEIR COMMUNITY NEVER GET. SESSIONS ARE DELIVERED BY MAD PARK INSTRUCTORS IN 45 TO 50 MINUTE BLOCKS ACROSS SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY SETTINGS AND ARE DESIGNED TO BUILD PHYSICAL LITERACY, COORDINATION, ENDURANCE, AND BODY CONFIDENCE WHILE EXPOSING SCHOLARS TO A RANGE OF MOVEMENT DISCIPLINES THEY WOULD NOT OTHERWISE ENCOUNTER. IN 2025, MAD PARK DELIVERED 58 MOVEMENT SESSIONS ACROSS SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY SETTINGS, EXPOSING SCHOLARS TO BASEBALL, ATHLETIC CONDITIONING, DANCE, SKATEBOARDING, DISTANCE RUNNING, AND MORE.AS A SIGNATURE COMPONENT OF MOVE WELL IN 2025, MAD PARK LAUNCHED A RUN CLUB SERVING 7 SCHOLARS WHO TRAINED CONSISTENTLY OVER A 9-WEEK PERIOD. THE PROGRAM CULMINATED IN SCHOLARS COMPETING IN THE COOPER RIVER BRIDGE 10K, ONE OF THE LARGEST COMMUNITY ROAD RACES IN THE COUNTRY. THE RUN CLUB WAS DESIGNED TO BUILD NOT ONLY PHYSICAL ENDURANCE BUT ALSO DISCIPLINE, GOAL-SETTING, AND THE CONFIDENCE THAT COMES FROM COMMITTING TO SOMETHING HARD AND SEEING IT THROUGH. EVERY SCHOLAR WHO ENTERED THE PROGRAM CROSSED THE FINISH LINE.
- CAMP MAD PARK -- SUMMER WELLNESS EXPERIENCECAMP MAD PARK IS MAD PARK COMMUNITY'S FULL-IMMERSIVE SUMMER WELLNESS EXPERIENCE SERVING SCHOLARS AGES 5 THROUGH 14. THE PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO EXPOSE YOUNG PEOPLE TO ENRICHING, REAL-WORLD EXPERIENCES THAT EXPAND THEIR SENSE OF WHAT IS POSSIBLE, BUILT AROUND THE SAME BELIEF THAT DRIVES ALL OF MAD PARK'S WORK: THAT ACCESS TO MEANINGFUL, HIGH-QUALITY EXPERIENCES IS A BIRTHRIGHT, NOT A PRIVILEGE.CAMP RUNS ACROSS SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY SETTINGS MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY FROM 9:00 A.M. TO 3:00 P.M. AND IS STRUCTURED AROUND WEEKLY IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCES LED BY COMMUNITY PROFESSIONALS AND EXPERTS IN THEIR FIELDS.IN THE SUMMER OF 2025, 25 SCHOLARS PARTICIPATED IN THREE WEEKS OF CAMP MAD PARK PROGRAMMING. EACH WEEK WAS BUILT AROUND INTENTIONAL EXPOSURE EXPERIENCES, INCLUDING SESSIONS WITH A PROFESSIONAL CULINARY CHEF, PHOTOGRAPHY, BIKE RIDING, SURFING, HORSEBACK RIDING, AND STEAM ACTIVITIES. FOR MANY OF OUR CAMPERS, THESE WERE ENTIRELY NEW EXPERIENCES--FIRST TIMES ON A BOARD, BEHIND A CAMERA, ON A HORSE, OR IN A KITCHEN WITH A PROFESSIONAL CHEF. EVERY EXPERIENCE IS CHOSEN WITH PURPOSE: TO SHOW SCHOLARS A WORLD BIGGER THAN WHAT THEY HAVE SEEN SO FAR AND TO PLANT SEEDS OF CURIOSITY, CONFIDENCE, AND POSSIBILITY THAT LAST LONG AFTER THE SUMMER ENDS.IN TOTAL, MAD PARK COMMUNITY DELIVERED 118 INSTRUCTOR-LED WELLNESS SESSIONS SERVING 330 SCHOLARS ACROSS GRADES K THROUGH 8 AT ONE CHARLESTON-AREA PARTNER SCHOOL AND PROVIDED THREE WEEKS OF FULL-DAY CAMP MAD PARK EXPERIENCES SERVING 25 SCHOLARS IN SUMMER 2025.
