Mission
To produce socially relevant works in order to break down the barriers of the classical art form and bring communities together.
Program accomplishments
- AOT's education program, Opera Immersion, took on a new education partner and began a residency at Gordon Parks High School in St. Paul. The students at this "last chance" school were very receptive to learning about theatrical production and worked together alongside our teaching artists to create a new production of a scene from Rigoletto by Verdi and a Zarzuela opera.Expenses $24,273
- AOT produced an entirely new concept with our show, "opera underground." It was a sold out experience that was performed in various non-traditional venues across the twin cities and merged opera, metal, rap, and dance into an unforgettable soundscape experience.Expenses $38,577
- Fan-favorite DIVAS & DRAG returned to Minneapolis at The Jungle Theater. It was our largest cast yet, including both renowned local opera performers and musical theater performers. Sold out shows welcomed 60% new audience members, 40% of them had never experienced any form of opera before.Expenses $41,300
- Other programmatic work to break down the barriers of the classical art form and bring communities together.Expenses $4,750
