Mission

To decrease inequities in childbirth by providing access to doula services, childbirth education, and prenatal & postpartum support for low-income and teen families in the Omaha area.

990 for the year ended December 31, 2025

Program accomplishments

  • Omaha Better Birth Project served 150 low-income and teen families through the Doula Access Grants Program. This is a 65% increase in supported families from 2024. Through this program, families receive access to funds to help pay for birth or postpartum doula services. The birth doula grant participants saw an unplanned cesarean rate of 12% - well below local, state, and national averages. Of the families who intended to breastfeed after birth, 97% met that goal. 90% of families surveyed said having a doula led to a more empowered birth or postpartum experience. Lastly, doulas across the Omaha community were invited to participate in a postpartum depression reduction program training and pilot facilitated by Omaha Better Birth Project, called the ROSE Program. 12 doulas participated in the training and provided 5 families with the program through the pilot phase. We anticipate offering this training on a bi-annual basis.
    Expenses $190,538
  • Our community outreach and support program provided essential baby and postpartum supplies to more than 150 low-income and teen families. Through this program, we distributed items such as strollers, Pack 'n Plays, car seats, diapers, wipes, baby carriers, bottles, and hygiene kits to more than one hundred families in need. These items are more than just products, they are tools that support safety, bonding, and daily care during a critical time in a family's life. For many parents, especially teen and first-time parents, receiving these essentials brought peace of mind and allowed them to focus on nurturing their babies. Thanks to the generosity of our donors and community partners, we were able to meet the growing demand for supplies and respond quickly to urgent needs. These supplies helped bridge gaps in access, especially for families without reliable transportation or stable housing. In every package we deliver, we aim to provide not just material goods, but also a message: you are not alone, and your community cares about you and your baby. Additionally, we hosted our annual Community Baby Shower, a joyful and empowering event to celebrate expectant and new parents in our community. The event brought together 50 families for a day filled with connection, learning, and support. Attendees participated in interactive education sessions on maternal mental health & breastfeeding. In addition to learning opportunities, families received essential baby items including strollers, baby gates, diaper bags full of goodies, and more. Community organizations were onsite to connect parents with local resources such as health services, housing support, and early childhood programs. Most importantly, the event offered a chance for parents to come together, build community, and feel honored during this important chapter of their lives. We are grateful to our volunteers, donors, and partners who helped make this celebration possible. Lastly, we participated in several community events, sharing resources, supplies, and educational information to families across the Omaha community.
    Expenses $14,711
  • Through the Fresh Start Diaper Program, we provided more than 400 low-income and teen families with supplemental diapers and wipes. This program closed in March 2025 due to organizational and volunteer capacity limits.
    Expenses $1,729
