Mission

ABLED's mission is to assist adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in building the skills, confidence, and experiences necessary to achieve competitive integrated employment and greater independence in their communities.

990 for the year ended December 31, 2025

Program accomplishments

  • ABLED's Job Training Activity Center is a structured, full-day vocational training program serving adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) who are referred through Alta California Regional Center. The program operates Monday through Friday and is designed to prepare participants for competitive integrated employment through individualized, person-centered instruction aligned with each participant's Individual Service Plan (ISP) and Individual Program Plan (IPP) objectives. The program provides hands-on training across more than 30 entry-level jobs, including custodial, retail, food service, clerical, and stocking/warehouse positions. Instruction is differentiated to meet each participant's readiness level and is delivered through two complementary components: (1) a structured Curriculum covering financial literacy, technology skills, and independent work tasks curated to individual goals; and (2) a Practicum component providing real-world job skill application assessed through standardized checklists and rubrics. In Fiscal Year 2025, ABLED expanded its programming to include volunteer activity experiences, providing participants with additional community integration opportunities and applied skill development in real-world settings. Participants who are nearing program completion may participate in a paid internship program, which provides up to 1,040 hours of compensated work experience across a variety of community employers who are supportive of individuals with IDD pursuing competitive integrated employment. The anticipated duration of program participation is approximately 24 months, with length of service determined by individual need, progress, and person-centered planning. In Fiscal Year 2025, ABLED served 42 individuals and tracked progress toward 240 ISP objectives. Key program outcomes included: Work Readiness: Program attendance averaged 85.6%, exceeding the program benchmark of 80%. Curriculum assessments (measuring independence, engagement, task completion, and accuracy) averaged 78.9%. Level 1 Practicum participants (assessed on punctuality, job checklist adherence, workplace behavior, and organization) averaged 81.4% overall proficiency. Level 2 Practicum participants (assessed on independence, initiative, accuracy, focus, and communication) averaged 77.3% overall proficiency. Independence: 95% of participants (40 of 42) demonstrated reduced reliance on staff prompts in at least one core job skill area, exceeding the program goal of 70%. 74% of participants (31 of 42) independently completed assigned job tasks with minimal verbal prompting, exceeding the program goal of 50%. ISP Progress: 79.6% of participants (33 of 42) made measurable, documented progress toward their ISP objectives, exceeding the program benchmark of 75%. Of 240 total ISP objectives tracked, 17.5% were fully achieved and 79.6% showed measurable progress. Transition Outcomes: Four participants successfully transitioned from the program during Fiscal Year 2025: one to competitive integrated employment (representing 33% of participants who reached 24 months of enrollment), one to an additional competitive integrated employment placement, one to a paid internship placement, and one to competitive vocational training.
