Mission

POTIONS & PIXELS is a nonprofit organization that creates and utilizes games art and technology for community impact.

990-EZ for the year ended December 31, 2025

Program accomplishments

  • ArtCade - In 2025 our ArtCade program focused on preserving classic games as they were originally meant to be played. We built newly designed arcade units using upcycled CRT televisions in partnership with Mecklenburg County Solid Waste and Recycling along with original game controllers and an authentic hardware experience. This initiative served as a blend of historic interactive game preservation and community-focused art for all ages. We introduced four new machines at Charlotte SHOUT! and commissioned twenty-one artists for upcoming units. With the help of additional grants we began building additional units to be placed in public spaces and laid the groundwork for a 2026 training program to teach carpentry and electrical skills through arcade building. We also started developing complementary art pieces to enhance the presentation of our ArtCade installations.
    Expenses $35,945
  • Community Engagement & Game Library - In 2025 our Community Engagement and Game Library initiatives continued to foster a vibrant local gaming ecosystem. We placed special emphasis on supporting and uplifting other local gaming organizations. By bringing our ArtCade units and game library to a range of community events we helped create inclusive spaces for people of all ages to experience games as art and social connection. This ongoing community engagement strengthened partnerships and reinforced our commitment to enriching the local gaming culture.
    Expenses $31,772
  • Growing the Game Industry - In 2025 we expanded our efforts to grow the local game industry through a wider series of contests grants and community events supporting creators at all levels. We continued our Tournament Organizer Interactive Art and Content Creation Grant programs providing financial support and visibility across creative disciplines. We introduced a new video game music contest and hosted new rounds of our video game and board game development contests including crossover challenges that encouraged creators to adapt games across mediums. Our ongoing Game Industry Gatherings and Playtest events offered regular opportunities for developers students and professionals to connect exchange ideas and refine their work. These combined efforts strengthened the local game industry ecosystem and helped cultivate a more vibrant supportive and interconnected creative community.
