Mission

IMMIGRATION LAW & JUSTICE NEW YORK WELCOMES IMMIGRANTS INTO OUR COMMUNITIES WITH COMPASSION DIGNITY AND LOVE BY PROVIDING FREE HIGH-QUALITY IMMIGRATION LEGAL SERVICES OFFERING EDUCATION TO COMMUNITIES OF FAITH AND THE PUBLIC AND ENGAGING IN ADVOCACY FOR IMMIGRANTS RIGHTS.

990 for the year ended December 31, 2025

Program accomplishments

  • ILJNY provided free high-quality immigration legal services for low-income and vulnerable immigrants through church-based legal clinics located in Manhattan Brooklyn Queens and Hicksville. These clinics are hosted inside trusted congregational spaces allowing clients to seek help in familiar and welcoming settings. At each clinic staff and volunteer attorneys conducted legal intakes and provided consultations to individuals and families navigating complex immigration processes. In the past year ILJNY onboarded around 219 new clients opened 501 new cases and resolved 373 legal matters for our new and existing clients offering assistance on critical immigration legal matters including asylum removal defense citizenship work authorization and family reunification.
    Expenses $382,107
  • In 2020 ILJNY was one of three sites selected within the ILJ Network to participate in the national Leading with Welcome program funded by the United Methodist Committee on Relief and coordinated by Church World Service. Since then ILJNY provided legal advise counsel and full representation for asylum seekers newly relocated to New York and New Jersey. Through this program ILJNY partnered with Church World Service to pair case management and social services with legal representation for individuals in affirmative asylum and defensive immigration proceedings. Clients included people fleeing persecution and violence who required urgent legal protection to stabilize their lives and remain with their families in the United States. By participating in Leading with Welcome ILJNY addressed a critical gap in the asylum system at a time of heightened need. This work ensured that vulnerable individuals were not left to navigate complex asylum processes alone and that they had access to representation rooted in compassion and dignity. The program strengthened ILJNYs capacity to defend immigrant rights and reinforced its role as a trusted legal source. We continue to represent dozens of immigrant families in their affirmative and defensive immigration proceedings standing by our clients through long backlogs and administrative legislative and regulatory changes since 2025 which have complicated the legal pathway for asylum seeking families.
    Expenses $82,195
  • ILJNY provided community education and outreach programs designed to equip immigrants with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate complex legal processes. ILJNY provided Know Your Rights presentations and legal information sessions at the Church of St. Paul and St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Manhattan where newly arrived migrants participated in group workshops and one-on-one legal consultations. These sessions helped individuals understand requirements such as ICE check-ins how to change venue to New York immigration court and the steps for filing asylum or work authorization applications. In addition ILJNY collaborated with community partners to extend outreach in other spaces including workplaces and public venues where immigrant workers and families gather. These efforts ensured that vulnerable populations can access accurate legal information and guidance in the settings where they gather work and feel safe. In total ILJNY reached hundreds of individuals through these presentations who might otherwise lack access to trustworthy legal guidance. By combining education with targeted legal assistance the program reduced the risk of deportation due to missed deadlines or misfiled paperwork and helped immigrants take informed steps toward safety stability and the possibility of lawful status in the United States.
    Expenses $52,690
