Mission

Sojourn House exists to defend, restore, and liberate women who have been trafficked or exploited.

990 for the year ended December 31, 2024

Program accomplishments

  • Residential Program: In January 2024, we celebrated our first graduate of our residential program! She worked hard during her time at Sojourn House to not only heal from what shes been through but also to build a sustainable life for herself after graduation. She had been setting aside money each month so upon her graduation she was able to afford to move into an apartment- her first time having a home of her own! Just a few weeks after our first graduate moved out, we welcomed another new resident who due to her previous work experience and education was able to do some contracted marketing work for us later in the year once she had settled in and was in a healthy place to begin working. In February 2024, we officially hired a longtime volunteer to become our Program Director. She has taken our programming and cultivated an environment of trust and respect between our residents, staff, and volunteers. She continues to find and train new volunteers who help with resident transportation and teach life skills classes. In June 2024, we welcomed another new resident that has been flourishing in the program. She loves to bake and is very creative! She bakes goodies for the staff and other residents often as a way to show her appreciation for them and her gratitude for being at Sojourn House. Another new resident moved in August 2024. We supported her through some difficult court cases as she was facing charges for battery against her own abuser. She struggled at first to be open to the trust and respect we nurture at Sojourn House, but over time she began to soften and let down some of the walls she had up. Outreach Program: Our Outreach Case Manager worked with an additional 45 women in 2024, bringing our outreach client total to well over 100 women by the end of 2024. We had 371 attendees for sex trafficking education that we provided to community partners and agencies. Fourteen new partnerships were established with local agencies. We provided 142 support services such as assistance finding shelter, recovery support, transportation, or education as well as food, clothing, or hygiene products in downtown Bloomington. Sixteen meetings were attended with local agency partners to collaborate on mutual clients and/or share program information. Later in the year we launched a jail outreach program at the Monroe County Correctional Center where we were able to establish relationships with 23 women and provide education and prevention classes.
