Mission

Preservation of the historic Colerain Forges Mansion, a National Register of Historic Places site, providing educational experiences about the history of the mansion, and continuing its legacy of 200 years of supporting the local arts, today through retreats, artist residencies, performances, and workshops.

990 for the year ended December 31, 2024

Program accomplishments

  • Production of annual Shakespeare play with regional actors staying in the mansion for the entire rehearsal and performance time. We had over 60 community members attend the performance. The opportunity to see live theater is this part of rural central Pennsylvania is rare. The Colerain Center offers these type of events free of charge with a "pay what you will" model to encourage attendance.
    Expenses $5,477 · revenue $220
  • Concert of traditional folk and American roots music. The Colerain Center was thrilled to share a performance by Nashville legend Kieran Kane with our rural community. Opportunities to experience live music, especially of this caliber, are rare in rural central Pennsylvania, and when such opportunities do come, the ticket price are not affordable for rural families. Throughout the 1800s, the Colerain Forges Mansion was a place for the community to experience live music and learn about music in classes taught by the iron master's daughter, Kate Stewart. Today, the Colerain Center is continuing this legacy.
    Expenses $2,075 · revenue $695
  • Traditional end-of-the season community gathering and concert. From the 1940s through the 1960s, the Colerain Forges Mansion hosted a community picnic and concert to celebrate the end of the summer and raise money for various causes. This year, the Colerain Center revived this tradition featuring local musicians who have been performing in central Pennsylvania for over 60, many of whom have been friends of Colerain for decades.
    Expenses $1,877 · revenue $925
  • In addition to the three described above, the Colerain Center hosted its first art show in February by a local photographer and writer. We also hosted several emerging musicians who spent a week at the Colerain Forges Mansion rehearsing and composing. In addition, we led regularly scheduled house tours as well as historic blacksmithing and archaeological demonstrations.
    Expenses $400
