Mission

Saint Joseph's Arts Foundation (SJAF) supports the creation and presentation of contemporary art through local and national artist-in-residency programs, innovative partnerships with artists and arts organizations, and the presentation of exhibitions, performances, and public events that showcase art of all media and disciplines. At a time when unaffordable gallery and studio space, as well as housing, plagues artists throughout the United States, SJAF provides art exhibition spaces in both San Francisco, CA and Providence, MA, along with other support to artists. SJAF creates arts programming that inspires artists and the public to participate in cultural experiences, and promote the relevance of art and artists in the daily life of our society.

Program accomplishments

  • In 2024, the Foundation continued to expand its reach and deepen its impact through a growing number of exhibitions and public programs. Across both the San Francisco and Provincetown locations, SJAF presented eight visual art exhibitions, alongside 29 programs in San Francisco and 21 in Provincetown. These included artist talks, workshops, performances, film screenings, and interdisciplinary gatherings that welcomed a diverse and engaged public. Highlights included Packing and Cracking: The Art of (and Response to) Gerrymandering in San Francisco, which used textile-based art to explore political redistricting and featured hands-on workshops and public talks. In Provincetown, a sold-out conversation between Doris Kearns Goodwin and Kevin Sessums drew broad community interest and engagement. Throughout the year, SJAF remained committed to inclusivity, collaboration, and cultural vitality, strengthening its role as a hub for creative exchange and community connection on both coasts.
