Mission
THE MISSION OF MENTOR NORTH IS TO CELEBRATE YOUTH AND SUPPORT THEIR FAMILIES THROUGH ONE-ON-ONE MENTORSHIP AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT.
Program accomplishments
- MENTOR NORTH'S INTEGRATED CORE PROGRAMS, MENTOR DULUTH AND MENTOR SUPERIOR, PROVIDE PROFESSIONALLY SUPPORTED ONE-TO-ONE MENTORING FOR YOUTH AGES 7-18. MENTOR NORTH'S INDIVIDUALIZED, RELATIONSHIP-CENTERED APPROACH STRENGTHENS EACH YOUNG PERSON'S CIRCLE OF SUPPORT WHILE HELPING YOUTH BUILD LASTING CONNECTIONS, CONFIDENCE, AND FAMILIARITY WITH THEIR OWN COMMUNITIES. MENTOR NORTH'S MENTORING MODEL IS COMMUNITY-BASED RATHER THAN SITE-BASED. YOUTH ARE MATCHED WITH TRAINED, SCREENED ADULT VOLUNTEER MENTORS BASED ON PERSONALITY, INTERESTS, AND GOALS. MENTORS COMMIT TO MEETING WITH YOUTH AT LEAST FOUR HOURS PER MONTH FOR A MINIMUM OF ONE YEAR; MATCHES AVERAGE MORE THAN TWO YEARS. TO PROMOTE SAFE, STABLE, AND EFFECTIVE RELATIONSHIPS, MENTOR NORTH STAFF RECRUIT AND SCREEN MENTORS, CONDUCT INTERVIEWS AND REFERENCE CHECKS, COMPLETE BACKGROUND CHECKS, PROVIDE MENTOR TRAINING, FACILITATE THOUGHTFUL MATCHING, AND CONDUCT ANNUAL EVALUATIONS OF PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS. EACH MATCH IS SUPPORTED BY A PROGRAM ADVOCATE WHO PROVIDES ONGOING GUIDANCE, REGULAR CHECK-INS, MONITORING, AND TROUBLESHOOTING SUPPORT TO MENTORS, YOUTH, AND CAREGIVERS. STAFF WORK TO STRENGTHEN MATCHES WHEN CHALLENGES ARISE AND TO POSITIVELY CLOSE AND TRANSITION RELATIONSHIPS WHEN MATCHES END. YOUTH WAITING FOR A MATCH ARE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN GROUP AND COMMUNITY-BASED ACTIVITIES THAT HELP THEM REMAIN CONNECTED AND ENGAGED WHILE THEY WAIT. IN 2025, MENTOR NORTH SERVED 206 YOUTH, INCLUDING 119 YOUTH WHO WERE ACTIVELY MENTORED BY 117 VOLUNTEER MENTORS. TOGETHER, MENTORS AND YOUTH LOGGED 1,501 MENTORING SESSIONS TOTALING 4,608 HOURS. MORE THAN 90% OF YOUTH REPORTED THAT MENTORING HELPED THEM FEEL MORE POSITIVE ABOUT THEIR FUTURE, FEEL BETTER ABOUT THEMSELVES AND THEIR IDENTITY, AND LEARN MORE ABOUT PEOPLE WITH DIFFERENT EXPERIENCES. YOUTH ALSO REPORTED ENJOYING TIME WITH THEIR MENTORS AND HAVING OPPORTUNITIES TO VISIT NEW PLACES AND TRY NEW THINGS. ONE HUNDRED PERCENT OF MENTORS REPORTED A POSITIVE IMPACT FROM MENTORING, AND 100% OF PARENTS REPORTED THAT THE MENTORING RELATIONSHIP HAD A POSITIVE IMPACT ON THEMSELVES AND/OR THEIR FAMILY. MENTOR NORTH'S SIGNIFICANT INVESTMENT IN PROFESSIONAL STAFF SUPPORT IS CENTRAL TO THESE OUTCOMES. CONSISTENT STAFF ENGAGEMENT HELPS ENSURE THAT MENTORS AND FAMILIES RECEIVE GUIDANCE THROUGHOUT THE LIFE OF EACH MATCH AND THAT RELATIONSHIPS ARE SAFE, STABLE, AND RESPONSIVE TO YOUTH NEEDS. THIS INTENSIVE SUPPORT REFLECTS ESTABLISHED BEST PRACTICES IN THE FIELD OF MENTORING AND ENABLES MENTOR NORTH TO PROVIDE INDIVIDUALIZED, HIGH-QUALITY RELATIONSHIPS AT SCALE.Expenses $286,599
