Mission

SMAA is organized for two main exempt purposes. One is to support the St. Mary's Chinese Language School, the Old St. Mary's Cathedral, and the St. Mary's Bell and Drum Corps. The second is to promote social and community-building activities for the school alumni, supporters, and friends of St. Mary's schools.

Program accomplishments

  • In 2023, SMAA sponsored the Centennial Plus special event to celebrate and commemorate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of St. Mary's Schools and Mission in the San Francisco community. The event brought together over 220 St. Mary's alumni, supporters, and friends to remember the accomplishments of the St. Mary's Cathedral and Schools over the past 100 years. With the proceeds from the special event, the SMAA donated two grants of $13,188 each. One was given to the Poi-Yuk Educational Foundation which supports the students of the St. Mary's Chinese Language School. Most of the over 100 students come from low-income families. Part of the grant was used to supplement student tuition for families who were impacted by Covid or other circumstances. The grant was also used for the Language School's enhancement programs which include a calligraphy program and a mental math program. The other grant was given to Old St. Mary's Cathedral to support much needed repairs to the Church's structure. Its roof has been leaking ad due to Covid, there has been less parishioners and visitors, resulting in less donations supporting the Church in the past 3 to 4 years. The other allocations listed in the section is related to support to the St. Mary's Bell and Drum Corps. and filing fees paid to the Department of Justice, totaling $111. These are the same amounts that were noted in Part I, Lines 10 and 16.
