Mission

To document, preserve, and present as educational programs through multimedia documents and traveling exhibits the sacrifices and accomplishments of the tens of thousands of Japanese women who married US servicemen after WWII, and to engage in any other activities which are not inconsistent with Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and applicable state law.

990-EZ for the year ended December 31, 2025

Program accomplishments

  • Working with the Smithsonian Traveling Exhibition Service, provided talks, documentary film screening and workshops at exhibition sites of the Japanese War Brides: Across a Wide Divide exhibition. This included a film showing with Q and A in Irving, Texas on March 15 at the Irving Archives and Community Museum, and presentations in Delray Beach, Florida for the opening of the exhibit at the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens. We did two film screenings in Florida - in May and in July.
    Expenses $3,298
  • For shooting of the full-length documentary film, we screened an early version for an audience of 50 on March 28 at the monthly meeting of ZAJA-NYC, a New York-based Japanese culture group. Based on their feedback, and a detailed feedback session with playwright Patrick Lee, we rented a small studio and shot more footage for continual rounds of restructuring and re-editing, toward a completion date of September, 2026. We conducted a search for additional historical images in Japan, which will augment existing private, public and commercial archive photos from Japan and the U.S.
    Expenses $1,970
  • Applied for and received $15,000 grant from the US-Japan Foundation to support community engagement at venue sites for the Smithsonian traveling exhibition "Across a Wide Divide." The activities include introductions to the exhibition and the stories of Japanese war brides, screening of the short documentary film "Fall Seven Times, Get Up Eight", workshops on conducting oral histories and further interview of war brides and their families.
