Program accomplishments

  • Black Girls Cook (BGC) has empowered adolescent Black girls in historically neglected communities experiencing disenfranchisement and food insecurity. Through dynamic, hands-on programming, BGC teaches culinary skills, edible gardening, and STEM-focused activities, using food as a vehicle to inspire creativity, self-sufficiency, and community engagement. BGC's commitment to holistic education has expanded to include intergenerational learning opportunities, such as intergenerational cooking classes, that foster cultural preservation and family connection. BGC's innovative programs include the Summer of Food, which integrates culinary arts, gardening, and STEM-focused "Kitchen Sink Beauty" activities. By engaging with fresh ingredients and exploring food systems, participants deepen their knowledge of nutrition, sustainability, and food science.
