Mission

The Peninsula Bridge Education Foundation (PBEF) supports teaching, promoting, and playing the game of duplicate bridge for all age groups. PBEF helps ensure the continued availability of first-rate bridge learning and playing facilities for the 800 members of the American Contract Bridge League Unit 503, other San Francisco Bay Area Units' 5,300 members, as well as the general public. PBEF funds a bridge lecture series, bridge promotions to attract players to play face-to-face bridge, bridge seminars, and a bridge facility which contains a library with several hundred books. Silicon Valley Youth Bridge, a part of PBEF, offers after-school bridge programs, bridge mentoring events, and other opportunities for youth to learn the game of bridge. These included 47 Casual Fridays in 2025 (avg 16 students), 5 Pizza Party bridge tournaments (avg 16 students), and Summer & Winter bridge camps (30 students). In 2025, SiVY sponsored 14 youths to participate in a national bridge tournament.

Program accomplishments

  • Promoted face-to-face duplicate bridge play, including funding a portion of the rent expense of the ACBL Unit 503 Bridge Center. These promotions included Find-a-Partner games (players looking for a bridge partner attend a bridge lecture and game and play with many different players to find a new partner), Swiss Team Boot Camp, where players learn the mechanics and strategy of playing Swiss Team games, hold free bridge lectures which help players improve their bridge games. Hold special event games, such as Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Cinco De Mayo, and Halloween where the Bridge Center is theme-decorated. These theme games are great fun and draw many players to play face-to-face bridge. These events are attended by some of the 1,900 members of the three San Francisco Peninsula bridge units. The Bridge Center holds face-to-face bridge games five days a week and 12 bridge tournaments attended by some of the 5,300 members of the ACBL San Francisco Bay Area bridge members. The Unit 503 membership and guests are largely seniors, and the Unit provides a social environment where members and the general public can meet new people, make friends, pursue a hobby, play an entertaining card game, and keep mentally sharp
