Program accomplishments

  • MVM STUDIOS IS A FULL RECORDING STUDIO AND CREATIVE HOME FOR EMERGING SONGWRITERS, MUSICIANS, BEAT MAKERS, AND POETS AGES 8-24. LOCATED IN EAST PORTLAND, MVM OFFERS YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS, INCLUDING OPEN STUDIO, RECORDING SESSIONS, AMPLIFY GROUP CLASSES, AND PERFORMANCES, THROUGH WHICH YOUTH WRITE, RECORD, AND PERFORM ORIGINAL MUSIC. OF THE 412 YOUTH ENROLLED IN 2025, OVER 70% PARTICIPATED ON FREE OR REDUCED TUITION.CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O. SUMMER ROCK CAMPS SERVED 120 CAMPERS (AGES 9-13) ACROSS SIX WEEKS, WITH 24 BANDS FORMED AND 15 MVM YOUTH LEADERS TAKING ON PAID ROLES, MANY FOR THE FIRST TIME. PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES EXPANDED SIGNIFICANTLY, INCLUDING 10 YOUTH PERFORMING AT PICKATHON AND 38 YOUTH PERFORMING ORIGINAL SONGS AT OUR FIRST PROFESSIONAL-STAGE ANNUAL SHOWCASE SINCE 2019. WE ALSO PILOTED YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMMING, SERVING 53 YOUTH OVER THE SUMMER THROUGH OPEN STUDIO AND GROUP CLASSES, WITH 93% RECEIVING SCHOLARSHIPS.RACIAL DIVERSITY INCREASED IN 2025, WITH 37% OF PARTICIPANTS IDENTIFYING AS YOUTH OF COLOR, A 7% INCREASE FROM 2024. THIS WAS DRIVEN BY NEW PARTNERSHIPS AND INTENTIONAL OUTREACH TO EAST PORTLAND COMMUNITIES. A KEY PARTNERSHIP WITH ASCENDING FLOW USES HIP HOP TO ENGAGE YOUTH IMPACTED BY SYSTEMIC INEQUITIES, INTEGRATING CONFLICT RESOLUTION AND SOCIAL JUSTICE INTO PROGRAMMING.DATA COLLECTION REMAINED A CHALLENGE, AND WE ENGAGED AN EVALUATION CONSULTANT AND IMPLEMENTED NEW SYSTEMS INCLUDING QR-BASED SURVEYS TO ADDRESS RESPONSE RATES AND SURVEY FATIGUE. POST-CAMP SURVEYS SHOWED 100% OF RESPONDING CAMPERS FELT MORE CONFIDENT IN MUSIC AND EXPERIENCED A STRONGER SENSE OF COMMUNITY.
