Mission

JOURNEY HOME'S MISSION IS TO ENSURE A HOME FOR ALL. WE BELIEVE THE MOST POWERFUL WAY TO DO THIS IS COLLECTIVELY - BY WORKING TOGETHER WITH SERVICE PROVIDERS, ELECTED OFFICIALS, BUSINESSES, AND LOCAL COMMUNITIES TO END HOMELESSNESS IN THE CAPITAL REGION OF CONNECTICUT. WE WILL BUILD PARTNERSHIPS, ADVANCE INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS, AND ACHIEVE ENDURING, SYSTEMIC CHANGE. WE'VE SPENT MORE THAN A DECADE COMMITTED TO ENDING HOMELESSNESS BY APPLYING SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS TO THE BARRIERS THAT CREATE CYCLES OF HOMELESSNESS. EVERY DAY, WE WORK TO PREVENT AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE FROM LOSING THEIR HOUSING, INCREASE THE SPEED AT WHICH WE FIND HOUSING FOR ANYONE WHO IS ALREADY EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS, AND HELP FOLKS MOVE INTO THEIR HOMES AND PROVIDE THE FURNISHINGS AND SERVICES THEY NEED TO NEVER BECOME HOMELESS AGAIN.

Program accomplishments

  • JOURNEY HOME'S MISSION IS NOT TO MANAGE HOMELESSNESS, BUT TO END IT. WE ARE A SMALL TEAM OF SOCIAL INNOVATORS TAKING A MODERN APPROACH TO A COMPLEX PROBLEM. WE HAVE CREATED A NATIONAL MODEL FOR BEST APPROACHES TO ENDING HOMELESSNESS. OVER A DECADE, WE HAVE BEEN FOCUSED ON ENDING CHRONIC HOMELESSNESS, WHICH DESCRIBES THOSE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED MORE THAN A YEAR OF HOMELESSNESS AND ARE LIVING WITH DISABLING CONDITIONS. SINCE 2015, 600 HOUSEHOLDS EXPERIENCING CHRONIC HOMELESSNESS HAVE OBTAINED HOUSING THROUGH THIS COORDINATED NETWORK. WHILE WE CONTINUE TO WORK TOWARDS ENDING CHRONIC HOMELESSNESS WE ARE ALSO NOW FOCUSED ON ENDING HOMELESSNESS FOR HOUSEHOLDS WITH CHILDREN AND YOUTH AGED 18-24. THROUGH THIS COORDINATED SYSTEM OF SERVICES WITH OUR PARTNERS, WE ARE NOW ABLE TO KEEP OVER 75% OF FAMILIES IN HOUSING CRISES OUT OF EMERGENCY SHELTERS. THROUGH OUR A HAND UP PROGRAM, FURNITURE DONATION AND VOLUNTEER ENGAGEMENT PROGRAM, WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO ASSIST APPROXIMATELY 400 CLIENTS WITH FURNISHING THEIR NEW HOMES AND INVOLVED OVER 900 VOLUNTEERS IN THESE EFFORTS. THROUGH OUR EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM, WE SUPPORTED 84 INDIVIDUALS BY PROVIDING ACCESS TO EMPLOYMENT RESOURCES, WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES, RESUME WRITING ASSISTANCE, AND JOB FAIRS, ALONG WITH TOOLS TO HELP SUSTAIN LONG-TERM EMPLOYMENT.
