Program accomplishments

  • Team Kids Challenge (TKC) Flagship School-Based Youth Leadership ProgramDuring the 2024 fiscal year, Team Kids expanded the reach and impact of the Team Kids Challenge, its research-based youth leadership and service-learning program. Through school and community partnerships, Team Kids provided students with opportunities to strengthen leadership skills, engage in meaningful service, build positive relationships with trusted adult mentors, and develop a stronger sense of belonging and civic responsibility. The Team Kids Challenge is a 6-week, school-based youth leadership and service-learning program delivered at no cost to participating schools and families. The program is grounded in positive youth development, student voice, service learning, and developmental relationships. Students work with Team Kids coaches, educators, police officers, firefighters, families, and community partners in a prosocial, non-enforcement setting. The program includes: A school-wide kickoff assembly Weekly service challenges Student leadership team meetings Student-led charity carnivals A culminating celebration recognizing student impact and charitable givingDuring the program, students identify community needs, choose causes meaningful to them, design service projects, lead peers, and raise funds for nonprofit organizations and charitable initiatives.Program Impact & Student OutcomesDuring the fiscal year, Team Kids served more than 17,500 K-8 students through programming in 32 schools across California, Arizona, and New York. Approximately 65% of participating schools were Title I campuses, serving student populations comprised of approximately 85.5% minority demographics.Students advocated for causes including animal welfare, homelessness and housing insecurity, childrens health, environmental protection, social justice, racism, literacy, and mental health. Through student-led Team Kids Charity Carnivals and service initiatives, students raised funds benefiting 35 nonprofit organizations and charitable causes. Consistent with Team Kids mission and program model, 100% of funds raised by students were donated directly to charities selected by participating student leaders.Independent research remains a core strength of the Team Kids model. Research conducted in partnership with Arizona State University and Compton Unified School District found that Team Kids programming strengthens developmental assets, resilience, leadership skills, empathy, self-confidence, and student engagement. Additional published research examining youth and public safety relationships found that the Team Kids model creates positive prosocial interactions between youth and police officers while strengthening youth perceptions of trust, fairness, and community connection. The Team Kids Challenge helps students recognize their voice, value, and ability to positively impact the world around them while strengthening relationships between youth, schools, families, public safety professionals, and community leaders.During the year, Team Kids also strengthened municipal, educational, and public safety partnerships throughout Southern California, including expanded relationships with the City of Anaheim, Anaheim Community Foundation, Anaheim Police Department leadership, Anaheim Fire & Rescue leadership, and school district leaders. These partnerships supported future opportunities for program growth and expansion into additional schools and communities. In support of long-term mission impact, Team Kids continued strengthening organizational infrastructure during the year. The organization concluded its 2023-2024 strategic plan, initiated development of a formal 2025-2028 strategic plan, advanced governance and board development efforts, and continued investing in organizational sustainability, operational excellence, and long-term capacity building.Additionally, Team Kids successfully hosted its 5th Annual Team Kids Golf Classic, the organizations signature fundraising event and largest annual fundraiser. The event brings together business and community leaders nationwide and is consistently recognized among the Top 5 Charity Golf Tournaments by the Orange County Business Journal. The Golf Classic continues to unite corporate partners, donors, public safety leaders, and community supporters in support of Team Kids mission and long-term growth.

  • Team Kids Unite (TKU) Alumni & Community Engagement ProgramTeam Kids Unite extends Team Kids mission beyond the school campus by providing youth with ongoing opportunities to participate in volunteerism and community service throughout the year.Through Team Kids Unite, children and families engage in service initiatives supporting causes such as hunger relief, environmental stewardship, animal welfare, literacy, community care, gratitude for military and public safety heroes, and support for vulnerable populations. The program encourages youth to continue developing leadership, empathy, and civic responsibility outside of the classroom while strengthening their connection to their communities.Team Kids Unite reinforces the habits developed through the Team Kids Challenge by helping students continue to see themselves as capable contributors who can positively impact the lives of others. By creating accessible opportunities for children to serve others and take meaningful action, the program advances Team Kids belief that young people are powerful partners in building stronger communities.
