Program accomplishments
- NATE OFFERS CORE SERVICE AND SPECIALTY EXAMS THAT CERTIFY THE SKILLS OF INSTALLATION AND SERVICE TECHNICIANS WHO WORK ON RESIDENTIAL AND LIGHT COMMERCIAL EQUIPMENT AND SYSTEMS: AIR CONDITIONING, AIR DISTRIBUTION, GAS HEATING, HEAT PUMPS, OIL HEATING, GAS AND OIL HYDRONICS, AND COMMERCIAL AND LIGHT COMMERCIAL REFRIGERATION. TO BECOME CERTIFIED AS A NATE INSTALLATION AND/OR SERVICE TECHNICIAN, TECHNICIANS NEED TO PASS BOTH THE REQUIRED CORE AND SPECIALTY EXAMS. THERE IS ALSO A SENIOR ENERGY ANALYST CERTIFICATION AS WELL AS A CERTIFICATION OFFERED IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE INTERNATIONAL GROUND SOURCE HEAT PUMP ASSOCIATION. NATE EXAMS ARE OFFERED AT HUNDREDS OF TESTING ORGANIZATIONS ACROSS THE UNITED STATES.THE READY-TO-WORK CERTIFICATE IS AN ENTRY-LEVEL EXAM DESIGNED FOR TECHNICIANS WHO ARE JUST ENTERING THE HVACR FIELD, WITH LITTLE TO NO FORMAL EDUCATION OR TRAINING. THE EXAM IS PRICED AT $60, WHICH INCLUDES A DOWNLOADABLE STUDY GUIDE THAT FOCUSES ON FUNDAMENTAL JOB KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS. THE READY-TO-WORK CERTIFICATE EXAM IS AVAILABLE ONLINE ONLY, DOES NOT REQUIRE A PROCTOR, AND CAN BE TAKEN FROM ANY COMPUTER. THOSE WHO PASS THIS EXAM EARN AN ENTRY LEVEL CERTIFICATION. THIS ENTRY LEVEL CERTIFICATION IS VALID FOR 5 YEARS. RATHER THAN RENEW THIS CERTIFICATION WITH CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS, TECHNICIANS ARE EXPECTED TO MOVE ON TO A HIGHER-LEVEL CERTIFICATIONS, SUCH AS THE HVAC SUPPORT TECHNICIAN OR THE PROFESSIONAL LEVEL CERTIFICATIONS.THE HVAC SUPPORT TECHNICIAN IS AN EXAM DESIGNED TO FOR TECHNICIANS WHO HAVE WORKED IN THE FIELD FOR 6 TO 12 MONTHS. TOPICS LINKED TO THE NATE PROFESSIONAL LEVEL CERTIFICATIONS ARE COVERED, BUT AT A MORE FUNDAMENTAL LEVEL. EARNING THIS CERTIFICATION DEMONSTRATES INCREASED KNOWLEDGE AND STRENGTHENS THE FOUNDATION NEEDED TO PURSUE NATE'S PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATIONS.
