Program accomplishments

  • During the fiscal year ending September 30, 2025, the Laredo Philharmonic presented four public concerts under the leadership of conductor and artistic director Dr. Hector Aguero. The 2024-2025 season, Musical Splendor, opened on October 27, 2024 with a performance by the Laredo Philharmonic Brass Quintet featuring guest organist Dr. Colin Campbell in the themed program Phantom Fanfare. On December 8, 2024 the orchestra and the Laredo Philharmonic Chorale were joined by students from Alexander High School, the Vidal M. Trevino Magnet School, Texas A & M International University, and Laredo College for Sounds of the Season. The program included selections from Handel's Messiah and audience sing-along carols. The chamber orchestra concert Classical Gems highlighted masterworks by Mozart and Vivaldi, including Vivaldi's Concerto in F Minor "Winter" from The Four Seasons, Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, and movements from Solemn Vespers, featuring local professional artists and educators Dana Crabtree, Celia Hernandez, Eddie Vandewalker, and Joseph Crabtree. The season concluded on May 18, 2025 with Tell Me a Story, a program featuring Lieuwen's Astral Blue, Ravel's Mother Goose Suite, and Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade. In addition to its regular concert season, the orchestra's brass quintet and string quartet provided multiple educational outreach performances at local public and private elementary schools, offering students hand-on learning experiences. Dr. Aguero also conducted master classes for middle and high school students, providing expert coaching, listening skills development, and targeted technical instruction.
