Mission

The CARE Center exists to reduce trauma for child abuse victims and their families, coordinate a multidisciplinary approach to child abuse investigations, and provide free, effective child abuse prevention resources and education.

990 for the year ended December 31, 2024

Program accomplishments

  • Child Advocacy Program: The CARE Center provides trauma-informed forensic interviews in a safe, child-focused environment where children can share their experiences of abuse. Trained interviewers conduct non-leading, recorded interviews while investigators observe from another room, reducing the number of times a child must retell their story and lowering the risk of re-traumatization. Family Advocates support each family through the investigation, prosecution, and healing process by helping them understand their rights and connect with needed resources. In 2024, the program conducted 1,122 forensic interviews and provided 3,015 advocacy services to children and their families.
    Expenses $1,005,410
  • Mental Health Services: The CARE Center provides children and families with on-site and virtual counseling, crisis intervention, observational assessments, mental health education, and referrals for long-term therapy through partner agencies. In 2024, our mental health team grew to three licensed therapists, including one bilingual Spanish-speaking therapist, along with a coordinator who helps families create individualized care plans. The program provided 1,139 therapy sessions and connected 365 children and families with external counseling resources
    Expenses $504,462
  • Prevention & Education Program: The CARE Center equips adults and children with the knowledge and tools to prevent abuse. Our free Recognizing & Reporting Child Abuse & Neglect training helps adults who work with children identify signs of abuse and understand their reporting responsibilities. Our ROAR program empowers children ages 4 to 8 to recognize unsafe situations and protect themselves. In 2024, we trained 1,017 adults and reached 25,374 children across the Oklahoma City metro community. Since the program began in 2017, more than 100,000 children have received ROAR safety education
    Expenses $384,046
  • Medical & Wellness: The CARE Center provides medical and wellness exams for children through our on-site clinic in partnership with a local children?s hospital. These exams evaluate and treat medical conditions resulting from abuse or neglect, ensure the child's well-being, and may collect evidence to support investigations. In 2024, the program conducted 117 medical exams and provided 228 medical consultations to children and their families
    Expenses $156,396
