Mission

To advocate for fair, affordable and environmentally responsible energy policies.

990 for the year ended June 30, 2025

Program accomplishments

  • Energy Efficiency: The Alliance advocates for energy efficiency programs and policies that help reduce energy cost, improve comfort, safety, and health outcomes. Energy efficiency programs are a win-win because they help families and businesses lower their energy bills while reducing harmful pollution for everyone. We also work to improve our states energy code so that new buildings are built for the extreme heat and cold Louisianans experience. Energy effiency is at the intersection of affordable housing, health, comfort and resilience.
    Expenses $350,749
  • Clean Energy: The Alliance for Affordable Energy is working to develope policy solutions that will decrease global warming pollution. We also know that Louisiana has the opportunity to transition from an energy state to a clean energy leader and transform our energy sector. Clean energy is also the lowest-cost power around. Renewable energy is also a stabilizing factor when the cost of fossil fuels become volatile on a local or global scale. By demanding clean energy, we can prevent the worst impacts of global warming, get electric costs under control, and secure our future.
    Expenses $444,281
  • Consumer Protection: The Alliance is the only dedicated consumer advocate in Louisiana for energy utility customers. We monitor regulatory proceedings at both of Louisianas utility regulatory bodies: New Orleans City Council and the Louisiana Public Service Commission and intervene on behalf of residential ratepayers. The Alliance holds electric and gas utilities, and their regulators accountable. We work to limit unfair costs that would otherwise be passed along to ratepayers on their energy bills. Through organizing, education, and research, The Alliance looks for regulatory and policy solutions to Louisianas biggest problems. We also aim to educate consumers on their rights and the true cost of energy.
    Expenses $374,131
