Program accomplishments

  • GOLDEN STATE POOLED TRUSTThe Golden State Pooled Trust (GSPT), established in 2004, has grown to support over 550 beneficiaries with a trust corpus totaling $22,251,250 as of 12/31/2024. GSPT ensures reliable asset management while safeguarding continued eligibility for essential government benefits, such as Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Medi-Cal, and In-Home Support Services (IHSS).GSPT holds funds from sources like lawsuit settlements, inheritances, or other payments, which is crucial in cases where:1. A sudden influx of funds could disqualify a person with disabilities from essential public benefits.2. The recipient requires ongoing care or advocacy over an extended period.3. The award may be quickly depleted to cover medical expenses, which would otherwise be covered by Medi-Cal, and the recipient lacks other financial support to meet their needs.Pooled special needs trusts are an effective solution for managing unexpected financial proceeds, such as those from litigation or inheritances, while preserving access to critical benefits that support the well-being of the individual. Funds placed in a properly structured pooled special needs trust, like GSPT, are not considered a resource when qualifying for SSI, Medi-Cal, or IHSS.Maintaining a balance between preserving public benefits and accommodating the limitations of a special needs trust is essential. The primary restriction is that beneficiaries do not have direct access to the funds. Instead, the trustee pays for goods and services on their behalf.Skilled trustees and advisors experienced in managing special needs trusts can help alleviate the restrictions, making the process smoother. The Golden State Pooled Trust is a sound option for protecting litigation proceeds, offering secure asset management and dedicated advocacy for the benefit of the trusts beneficiaries.HOUSING SERVICES AND SUPPORTS TO PERSONS WITH INTELLECTUAL/DVELOPMENTALDISABILITIESOur Housing Services and Support program is designed to empower individuals withintellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) to achieve stable, independent living arrangements.
