Mission
Maximize the well-being, the integral health and the opportunities for development for the women in Puerto Rico.
Program accomplishments
- In the fiscal year 2024-2025, more than 22,000 people living in 20 municipalities around Puerto Rico received Taller Salud direct services. The Women and Health Initiative works to protect women's rights, with a special emphasis on improving women's access to comprehensive healthcare, economic independence, and well-being. Throughout the year, community health promoters participated in comprehensive training that combined technical knowledge and tools for promoting health and well-being. They strengthened their critical awareness and their capacity to act as agents of change in the communities. Each group implemented community workshops and outreach activities, sharing knowledge with other women and consolidating their leadership through educational spaces and collective care. Our Youth leadership group Afrocaribeñas stood out for their work in anti-racist education and gender equality, creating campaigns, workshops, and meetings with other young people to expand their support network and leadership development. In providing care to women affected by gender-based violence, we have implemented comprehensive, flexible, and sustained support strategies. These strategies have fostered empowerment, safety, and autonomy, while simultaneously generating new advances that strengthen participants' capacity to face risky situations, make informed decisions, and rebuild their lives with greater confidence and stability. Despite persistent structural and economic challenges, we remain committed to offering ethical, sensitive, and survivor-centered care. Women and Health has drawn on advocacy efforts and public policy analysis for its community organizing work on issues of access to healthcare, reproductive care and violence against women.Expenses $1,530,734
- The Peace and Development Initiative works to protect the rights of young people, with a special emphasis on strengthening youth leadership and access to opportunities for personal and community development. In the past year, the Peace and Development Initiative's work on expanding its culture of peace driven primary and tertiary interventions achieved numerous successes. As in other years, interrupting community violence, access to mental health, and leadership development was a priority. Some of the most significant accomplishments includes, maintaining the downward trend in violent deaths in the municipality of Loíza; timely and rapid community responses to unavoidable events; a unique and safe space in the community where women grieving violent deaths can process their grief while giving and receiving psychosocial support; and the opportunity for young people La Tribu to design and launch their first local campaign, as well as conduct workshops and meetings with other young people to expand their support network and leadership development. Like the other initiatives, Peace and Development drew on advocacy efforts and public policy analysis to inform its community organizing work from consulting the community on its priorities.Expenses $1,278,747
- The Community and Leadership Initiative works to protect the rights of vulnerable communities, with a special emphasis on safeguarding their integrity, increasing their capacity to coordinate responses, and fostering their economic development. Some of this year's most significant achievements include maintaining food security committees, providing training, mutual support, and leadership development spaces in the organization's three resilient centers; launching the Food Security Report as a tool for highlighting and analyzing food security conditions in participating communities; consolidating the San Germán Community Kitchen, a space for accessing food and community gatherings; and inaugurating the Salinas Community Kitchen, which expands the community's response to food insecurity. Each resilient center operates sustainably, with access to potable water and renewable energy, ensuring its ability to function independently during emergencies. Our fundamental work has been to increase communities' capacity to organize, care for one another, and respond collectively to crises. Community and Leadership drew on advocacy efforts and public policy analysis for its community organizing work on issues of decent housing, food security and emergency preparedness from consulting the community on its priorities.Expenses $438,757
- Other programs including policy analysis: ssess community needs through research and analysis of social conditions, including areas such as food access, violence, and other critical issues affecting vulnerable populations. The program evaluates geographic areas and service gaps to identify where support is most needed. In addition, the program analyzes existing public policies and compares them with identified community needs to support informed advocacy efforts. The objective is to promote the development and improvement of policies and services that benefit women and the broader community.Expenses $192,424
