Mission
The Louisville Youth Choir creates stars of today by supporting and enhancing school music programs and by servicing unmet artistic needs in the community. Through the Louisville Youth Choir's diverse population, programs and music, LYC's leaders of tomorrow learn discipline, self-confidence, leadership and teamwork. The Louisville Youth Choir endeavors to be the regions premiere youth performing ensemble. LYC aspires to empower its singers to be advocates for the performing arts to benefit the world through collaborative partnerships with arts and community agencies.
Program accomplishments
- Founded in 1967, the Louisville Youth Choir (LYC) is home to six ensembles: Primary Singers (K-2nd Grade), Treble Choir (3rd-6th Grade), Aria Choir (7th-12th Grade), Chamber Choir (7th-12th Grade), Choral Scholars ((th-12th Grade) and Lascito Coro (adult SSA choir founded by alumnae of LYC and Sacred Heart Academy). As a community-based organization, LYC typically draws more than 100 children, youth, and adults, ages 6 and beyond from over 60 schools and diverse neighborhoods throughout the metropolitan area and six counties in Kentucky. LYC's music repertoire includes many styles and cultures, including major classic and modern works with orchestra and soloists.
