Mission

The Phoenix Project is dedicated to exposing and countering the influence of a dark money network in San Francisco. Its mission is to inform the public and media about the hidden sources of funding behind organizations such as Neighbors for a BetterSF, GrowSF, and TogetherSF, which are backed by tech and real estate billionaires. These groups, while claiming to address city issues, aim to reduce corporate taxes, oppose affordable housing initiatives, and weaken rent control policies.

Program accomplishments

  • To achieve its exempt purpose, The Phoenix Project works to unmask these organizations through research reports, public awareness campaigns, and digital communications. It highlights the connections between these groups, their shared donors, and their policy goals. Additionally, the project seeks to build a coalition of progressive and civic organizations to advocate for policies that support low-income residents and equitable city development. Importantly, The Phoenix Project remains nonpartisan and does not endorse political candidates.
