Mission

THE MISSION OF STOP CHILDREN'S CANCER IS THE PREVENTION, CONTROL AND CURE OF CHILDHOOD CANCERS. FUNDS ARE RAISED ANNUALLY AND AWARDED TO SELECTED RESEARCH AGENCIES.

990 for the year ended December 31, 2025

Program accomplishments

  • SINCE ITS INCEPTION IN 1981, STOP CHILDREN'S CANCER HAS RAISED OVER $7 MILLION, INCLUDING THE BONNIE'S LEGACY ENDOWMENT FUND, WHICH HAS APPROXIMATELY $1 MILLION IN PERPETUITY. IN ADDITION, AS A RESULT OF THESE DONATIONS, WELL IN EXCESS OF $20 MILLION IN NATIONAL CANCER INSTITUTE/NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF HEALTH (NIH) GRANTS AND OTHER AWARDS HAVE BEEN RECEIVED. STOP CHILDREN'S CANCER / BONNIE R. FREEMAN CLINICAL TRIAL FUND:THIS FUND CONTINUES TO SUPPORT THE PROGRAM INFRASTRUCTURE, INCLUDING THE DIRECTOR'S POSITION, WHO HAS LED OUR EFFORTS TO GROW PEDIATRIC CANCER TRIALS. OVER THE 15 YEARS THAT THIS FUND HAS BEEN IN PLACE, MORE THAN 1,500 CLINICAL TRIALS HAVE BEEN CONDUCTED. STOP CHILDREN'S CANCER / KIMBERLY H. FLAITZ RESEARCH GRANT:THIS FUND HAS BEEN FOCUSED ON SUPPORTING RESEARCH ON EWING'S SARCOMA. THE TEAM, LED BY DR. ELIAS SAYOUR, HAS DEVELOPED FUSION-TARGETED MRNA VACCINE CONSTRUCTS THAT CAN NOW BE USED TO ADAPT FOR EWS-FL1 TARGETED INTERVENTION IN EWING'S SARCOMA. THE TEAM IS CONTINUING TO DEVELOP VACCINES TARGETING A SPECIFIC MUTATION FOUND IN EWING'S SARCOMA BUT NOT IN NORMAL CELLS, WITH THE HOPE OF OPENING A TRIAL WITHIN THE NEXT 4 YEARS. LYRICS FOR LIFE / STOP CHILDREN'S CANCER JEFFREY A. BLOCK RESEARCH GRANT:THIS FUNDING SUPPORTED DR. PAUL CASTILLO, WHO IS WORKING ON DEVELOPING NOVEL IMMUNOTHERAPIES TO TREAT REFRACTORY CANCERS, ESPECIALLY T-CELL LEUKEMIAS AND T-CELL LYMPHOMAS. GIVEN THE STRIKING RESULTS OF A COMBINATIONAL APPROACH USING CAR T CELLS AND RNA NANOPARTICLE-BASED VACCINES, HE CONTINUES TO USE THIS APPROACH, WHICH WAS REPORTED IN 2021. HE HAS SHOWN PROMISING DATA USING THIS IMMUNOTHERAPEUTIC COMBINATIONAL APPROACH FOR ACUTE MYELOID LEUKEMIA, METASTATIC OSTEOSARCOMA, AND METASTATIC MELANOMA. THE PROMISE OF THIS APPROACH IS THAT IT RETAINS ANTICANCER EFFICACY ACROSS A WIDE RANGE OF CANCERS.
