Program accomplishments

  • THE 50TH SEASON FOR THE BAY STREET PLAYERS (BSP) ENDED WELL, THOUGH TICKET SALES WERE NOT NEARLY AS STRONG AS WE HAD HOPED. THE MANAGEMENT WORKED HARD TO KEEP COSTS DOWN WHICH HELPED TO OFFSET THE LACK OF REVENUES. THE NEXT SEASONS SHOWS SHOULD BRING MORE PATRONS BACK TO OUR HISTORIC THEATER.THE BSP TEAM AGAIN WELCOMED SEVERAL NEW MEMBERS TO OUR BOARD OF DIRECTORS, EACH OF WHOM HAVE A SPECIAL CONNECTION TO THE BSP COMMUNITY. THESE NEW MEMBERS ALSO BRING SKILLS WHICH WILL IMPROVE OUR STANDING IN THE COMMUNITY.THE SEASON BEGAN WITH KEN LUDWIGS COMEDY SHAKESPEARE IN HOLLYWOOD, FOLLOWED BY THE POPULAR MAN-EATING PLANT MUSICAL LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS. CALENDAR 2025 BEGAN WITH THE RECENTLY RELEASED, AND POSSIBLY SOON TO BE ON THE BROADWAY STAGE DRAMA PAPER THIN. THE FINAL TWO PRODUCTIONS OF THE MAIN STAGE SEASON WERE THE DR. SEUSS BASED PRODUCTION OF SEUSSICAL THE MUSICAL, AND WE CLOSED OUR SEASON WITH A MODERNIZED VERSION OF THE SHAKESPEARE SHOW MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING. YOUNG PEOPLES THEATER (YPT) EXPANDED TO ADD A YPTEEN GROUP FOR THOSE YOUTH AGED 13-18. IN THE FALL, THEY HAD DUAL CASTS PERFORMING LITTLE WOMEN, WHILE YOUTH 8-10 PERFORMED THE SURPRISING STORY OF THE THREE LITTLE PIGS. YPT FOLLOWED THE SEUSSICAL PRODUCTION WITH THEIR OWN PRODUCTION OF SEUSSICAL, JR IN THE SRPING. THE SUMMER SAW THE YPT PRODUCTION OF THE SPONGEBOB MUSICAL: YOUTH EDITION.THE THEATER ALSO BEGAN TO ADD TRIBUTE BANDS AND COMEDY SHOWS, AND HOPES TO EXPAND ON THAT IN COMING YEARS.THIS SEASON BEGINS WITH THE STEVE MARTIN AND EDIE BRICKELL MUSICAL BRIGHT STAR, FOLLOWED BY THE CULT CLASSIC (RELATIVELY SPEAKING) EVIL DEAD. JANUARY OF 2026 BEGINS WITH A MAD MAX THEMED VERSION OF SHAKESPEARES KING LEAR, FOLLOWED BY THE LIGHTNING THIEF A PERCY JACKSON BASED MUSICAL, AND WE END OUR SEASON WITH JIMMY BUFFETTS ESCAPE TO MARGARITAVILLE. WHILE THE BUILDING IS 103, WE ARE KEEPING OUR PRODUCTIONS FRESH AND SEEK TO BRING MANY MORE MODERN CHOICES FOR OUR PATRONS.
