TO PROMOTE, FURTHER AND SUPPORT AN AMERICAN MERCHANT MARINE ON THE OCEANS IN BOTH FOREIGN AND COASTWISE SERVICE, THE GREAT LAKES AND OUR INLAND WATERWAYS; TO PROMOTE SHIPYARDS AND OTHER ALLIED INDUSTRIES, ADEQUATE TO MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF NATIONAL SECURITY AND ECONOMIC WELFARE OF THE UNITED STATES; TO PROMOTE WATERBORNE COMMERCE AND THE MARINE INDUSTRY GENERALLY IN ALL ITS SEGMENTS; TO AIDE WORTHY AND ECONOMICALLY JUSTIFIABLE RIVER, INLAND WATERWAYS AND HARBOR IMPROVEMENTS; TO CONDUCT ANNUALLY AN AMERICAN MERCHANT MARINE AND MARITIME INDUSTRY CONFERENCE; TO COLLABORATE WITH OTHER ORGANIZATIONS WHOSE MEMBERS ARE DEDICATED TO THE PROMOTION OF THE BEST INTERESTS OF AMERICAN MARITIME SHIPPING AND ALLIED INDUSTRIES; AND TO ENCOURAGE THE DEVELOPMENT OF TRADE WITH OTHER COUNTRIES.
