Mission
Horse Rescue Refuge Stopping Animal/Horse Cruelty Before it Begins While Helping Youth and Adults Provides rehabilitation, non-abusive training, and ongoing care for the rescue's horses. The horses assist in providing community education for all ages. Stopping Cruelty to Animals Before it Begins, Horses Safety, New Owners Clinics, Needs and Care of Horses, Horse Day Camps, Life Skills, Leadership, and Personal Development (Equine Assisted Learning Programs). Helping with self-esteem, problem-solving, and teamwork, which are essential to our community.
Program accomplishments
- Connection Life Skills and Personal Development Programs and Life Skills Coaching. Horses help with self-esteem, problem-solving, teamwork, stress management, and skills development. The programs abruptly halted during the shutdowns of 2020 due to the Covid pandemic. This interrupted the camps and clinics usually held at the facility for education and fundraising for the horses and participants. This created great hardship for this non-profit. Not only income opportunities but also volunteer participation. 2022 Slowly improving.
- The online education platform will be available by May 2023. Due to a 10,000 grant pledge the pledge has yet to fund. Furthering education for future horse owners and helping our community with life skills and personal development. The in-person Skills development programs started back up in 2022 after a total shutdown with Covid. The online program will offer on demand courses. An individual has offered her time to build out the program. The fees needed will be for hosting and promotion expenses. Estimated at $99 per month.
- We served our At-Risk Youth with a three free 12 week skills development course in January and April of 2022, to grow engagement in the community and help the youth with communication and problem-solving skills development. This was made possible by volunteers. There was no income on this project.
- 2023 outreach to recruit and increase volunteerism. Increase in adult volunteers to assist with community and surrounding counties awareness of the rescue and its programs
- Increased parolee participation through referrals from local and surrounding counties. The court-mandated service workers get coaching on what perceived blocks keep individuals from reaching and achieving their goals. A certified coach and equine-assisted learning facilitator do the coaching. This has been a free service to the individuals referred by the court system. We are looking for funding in this area.
- June is youth skills development and leadership month. The program is a twelve-week commitment to the youth. The program is facilitated and partners with four specially trained rescued horses. Looking for funding to offer this to families struggling with communication skills in an at risk home with troubled children.
