Mission

Community Service Through Music

990-EZ for the year ended December 31, 2025

Program accomplishments

  • Line 28 Revenue Performances: These are orchestral or other ensemble performances for the community put on by members of the orchestra or other musicians RMS supports, for which RMS collects ticket receipts or other fees. RMS uses those revenues to pay the costs of presenting musical performances, and for other purposes consistent with the organizations tax exempt purpose. In a year, RMS sponsors at least six concerts by the entire 90 member NOVA Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra has performed for as many as 600 audience members in any single concert, providing extremely high quality orchestral music for a modest ticket price, or for a limited fee from the venue, at no cost to the audience.
    Expenses $10,926
  • Line 29 Free Performances: These are ensemble performances for the community put on by members of the orchestra or other musicians RMS supports, for which RMS does not collect ticket receipts or set fees, but may accept donations. Any donations received are used to pay the costs, direct and indirect, of presenting musical performances, and for other purposes consistent with the organizations tax exempt purpose. In a year, RMS organizes free chamber or other ensemble concerts to benefit the Northern Virginia community. There is no admission fee for these performances, but RMS does accept donations. For these performances, RMS often incurs significant costs for music and licensing, as well as recording equipment.
    Expenses $4,128
  • Line 30 Student Supports: These are scholarships, tuition assistance and equipment loans to support musical education for community college students. RMS offers and provides full-year merit-based scholarships annually to students, thereby assisting them in participating in a unique full orchestra experience for college credit. RMS also offers need-based scholarships reimbursing students for tuition costs on a per-semester basis.
    Expenses $1,617
