Mission

Madison House serves as the volunteer center for University of Virginia students. We coordinate volunteers, develop leaders, build community partnerships, and promote lifelong volunteer service.

990 for the year ended June 30, 2025

Program accomplishments

  • STUDENT VOLUNTEER COORDINATION Madison House inspires and coordinates volunteer service to support community priorities while enhancing students' education through leadership development and hands-onservice. In a typical year, 1,500-2,000 students volunteer weekly through Madison House programs, dedicating their time and energy to support local organizations and residents. Volunteer programs span four different tracks, including Animals & Environment, Education & Youth, Health & Medical Services, and Human Services. Approximately two thirds of our volunteers serve in hospitals and clinics, schools, and with our IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program to provide critical resources and services to the community. Across all Madison House initiatives, student volunteers contribute around 50,000 hours of service annually, gaining valuable experience and fostering a lifelong commitment to civic engagement.
