Mission
THE INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION COUNCIL IS A NON PROFIT TRADE ASSOCIATION WHOSE PRIMARY EXEMPT PURPOSE IS TO TRACK THE ISSUES AND POLICIES AFFECTING INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION, SPECIFICALLY THOSE DEALING WITH STUDENT FINANCIAL AID. THE ORGANIZATION SEEKS TO COMMUNICATE WITH AND INFLUENCE POLICY MAKER DECISIONS REGARDING US FINANCIAL AID PROGRAMS ON BEHALF OF ITS MEMBERS, THE INTERNATIONAL COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES ENROLLING US STUDENTS.
Program accomplishments
- IEC HAS PROVIDED INPUT TO THE U.S. CONGRESS AND SENIOR OFFICIALS AT THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION TO ADVOCATE FOR IEC MEMBER PRIORITIES ON REVIEW AND RENEWAL OF THE U.S. DIRECT LOAN PROGRAM. IT WILL CONTINUE UNTIL THE PROCESS IS COMPLETE AND NEW REGULATIONS ARE WRITTEN.
- IEC HOSTS AN ANNUAL CONFERENCE AND THE 2024 CONFERENCE HAD THE UNITED STATES DOE'S OFFICE OF FINANCIAL AID CONDUCT TRAINING SESSIONS. DELEGATES ALSO HEARD FROM U.S. CONGRESSIONAL STAFFERS FROM KEY COMMITTEES THAT DEVELOP HIGHER EDUCATION POLICY. ALSO, THE COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION AND LABOR SPOKE ON LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES AROUND POSSIBLE CHANGES TO THE HIGHER EDUCATION ACT AND CONGRESS' VIEWS ON INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION.
- IEC DELIVERS TRAINING EVENTS AND INFORMATIONAL SESSIONS ON COMPLIANCE AND ADMINISTRATION OF US LOAN PROGRAMS THROUGH ONLINE WEBINARS.
