Mission

The preservation and conservation of cold water fisheries. This is accomplished by a number of sponsored programs involving our members, local businesses and the community at large. These programs include, Trout In the Classroom, Adopt-A-Stream, Trout Camp, Stream Restoration projects, Clean My Water, Sign Installation in appropriate locations near the CHATTAHOOCHEE River, Project Healing Waters, Women's Fly Fishing and Trout Camp for Children.

990-EZ for the year ended March 31, 2024

Program accomplishments

  • Crayfish Creek Stream Restoration: using member & community assistance, we repaired 500 ft of badly eroded stream bank that was causing silt runoff into the CHATTAHOOCHEE River which was impacting a brown trout spawning area & drinking water for Metro Atlanta. The project also included the removal of invasive plant species, planting approximately 1000 native trees, shrubs & grasses, installing in stream structures to enhance marine life habitat and installing several tons of river stone to assist with erosion control. Our major partners were the National Park Service, the University of Georgia, the US Forestry Service, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, The Chattahoochee Riverkeeper, River Through Atlanta, Columbia Engineering and Alpharetta Outfitters. Over 187 volunteers participated with more than 1000 volunteer hours.
  • Trout In The Classroom: 19 elementary, middle and High Schools in Metro Atlanta participate as part of their science curriculum. Our TU volunteers install 50 gallon aquariums with filtration systems in each school & populate each with approximately 150 trout eggs. We instruct each class on the operation and maintenance of the aquarium and how to monitor and adjust the water quality. The result is the release of approximately 1,600 rainbow trout into the Chattahoochee River and the knowledge the students acquire of our cold water ecosystems.
    Expenses $3,020
  • Adopt-A-Stream: in partnership with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, 6 of our TU volunteers monitor the water quality in 5 tributary streams of the Chattahoochee River on a monthly basis. This allows preemptive discovery of pollutants in the stream which are reported to the DNR. The DNR takes remedial action thereby preventing major pollution of the Chattahoochee River which is a major source of potable water for Metro Atlanta.
    Expenses $535
