Program accomplishments

  • MDAEYC is thrilled to officially belong to NAEYCs affiliate network again. We have spent the last 11 months working diligently to build a reliable and visible state organization establishing new partnerships and welcoming all who care for young children ages birth through 8. We are committed to serving educators administrators families and community partners as an equity leader; a high-performing inclusive organization that consistently serves as a platform and vehicle to advance the field of early childhood education and advocate on behalf of our youngest citizens. During the Week of the Young Child MDAEYC hosted a Family Fun in the Park Fest to celebrate young children and all who care for them. The Park Fest was held at Cabin John Regional Park in Montgomery County on April 19th from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon. Families with young children were invited to come out and join us for some fun hands-on activities including sensory play experiences craft projects and face painting. MDAEYC also provided attendees with free professional family photos. This offering allowed us to capture the diversity of those we serve through these beautiful photos which families released for use by MDAEYC. To celebrate our re-affiliation with NAEYC we invited our members and friends to join us on September 15 2025 at the Lakeshore Learning Store for the MDAEYC Launch Party. The Launch Party was our opportunity to engage with community members and celebrate all those who work on behalf of young children and families. Attendees enjoyed free activities for all ages raffles door prizes and networking with colleagues and community partners. It gave members an opportunity to learn more about our new strategic plan public policy agenda and how they can be a part of the work we are doing to ensure better opportunities and outcomes for all Marylands children. We shook hands shared stories and committed to working together as an inclusive and responsive organization dedicated to facing the challenges ahead with innovative solutions and a tenacity for success. MDAEYC membership has doubled since 2023. The number of members grew from 1400 in 2024 to 2846 in June 2025. The increase in fall membership growth can be attributed to local registrants for the NAEYC Annual Conference in Washington DC who also became NAEYC and MDAEYC members. When we look at membership growth post-Annual Conference we still find dramatic increases in membership numbers. MDAEYC offered 12 free community screenings of the film No Small Matter in every region of the state reaching over 850 people. MDAEYC partnered with the network of child care resource and referral agencies and the Maryland State Department of Education community colleges and universities to ensure the audience was diverse and we were reaching communities across the state from all demographics. MDAEYC was able to receive sponsorship for these events to cover the costs of the screening license and light refreshments. Additionally MDAEYC received approval from MSDE to provide participants with 2 Core of Knowledge hours in Professionalism for attending a screening. Following each screening and discussion we had an opportunity to give a brief presentation about MDAEYC and NAEYC and our collaborative work both locally and nationally to address the pressing issues illuminated in the film. From the beginning Power to the Profession has been focused on putting the voices perspectives and experiences of early childhood educators front and center. In fact one of the guiding principles of the Power to the Profession National Task Force is The voices of the profession will lead our deliberation. MDAEYC held listening sessions to capture those voices. In the Power to the Profession sessions we engaged participants in a conversation about Decision Cycles 345+6 reviewed the document together answered questions provided resources and collected participants thoughts and perspectives to share with the task force. Participants also received 1 PAU Pending MSDE approval.
