Mission
Silicon Valley Social Venture Funds (SV2) mission is to unleash the talents and resources of the Bay Area community to achieve meaningful social impact. SV2 works to build the organizational capacity of our Nonprofit Grantees and Impact Investees and the philanthropic capacity of our donors (called Partners). SV2 does this through engaged Grantmaking, Impact Investing, and Immersive Learning Sessions in a number of issue areas with funds contributed by our Donor Partners.
Program accomplishments
- Experiential Grantmaking & Impact Investing:SV2 Partners pool their charitable contributions and then work together to identify and select high-potential Grantees and Impact Investees from among local nonprofits and early-stage companies with a social or environmental impact mission. Grantees and Investees receive unrestricted funding in order to scale their ability to achieve their missions and contribute to a Bay Area and world where everyone thrives. In 2024-25, SV2 made four multi-year, general operating support grants to Bay Area nonprofits. Two of these grants were to nonprofits focused on community organizing, and two of these grants were to nonprofits focused on education equity. SV2 also conducted its tenth year of impact investing, in which Partners performed due diligence and recommended four mission-driven companies in which SV2 made investments. Data suggests that, as a result of their engagement in SV2 programming, 89% of Partners increased their level of knowledge about local community needs and solutions, 81% of Partners felt an increase in ability to conduct effective due diligence on social impact organizations, and 83% of Partners experienced increased confidence in practicing effective giving.Expenses $1,127,640 · grants $857,490
- LEARNING PROGRAMS: PARTNER PHILANTHROPY EDUCATION AND GRANTEE LEARNING:IN ADDITION TO LEARNING-ORIENTED GRANT ROUNDS, SV2 HOSTS REGULAR LEARNING EVENTS AT WHICH PARTNERS AND GRANTEES/IMPACT INVESTEES BUILD KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS FOR WORKING IN THE SOCIAL IMPACT SPACE. THEY HEAR FROM SOCIAL SECTOR AND COMMUNITY LEADERS WHO SHARE THEIR EXPERIENCES AND LESSONS LEARNED. IN-DEPTH WORKSHOPS AND IMMERSIVE LEARNING TRIPS PROVIDE NEW SKILLS, UNDERSTANDING OF LOCAL ISSUES, AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR SV2 COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO CONNECT WITH AND LEARN FROM ONE ANOTHER. ALL PARTNERS AND GRANTEES/INVESTEES ARE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE.Expenses $308,577
- Innovation and R&D:SV2 extends its impact through field leadership (speaking, writing, social media), hosting major community-wide events, spearheading regular communications across our network, and building strategic partnerships with social impact-focused organizations.Expenses $145,488
- Grantee Capacity Building and Skilled Volunteer Advising Support:SV2 offers Beyond-the-Dollars support to help nonprofits and early-stage companies increase and sustain their organizational health and capacity. SV2 Partners and staff provide this support, which includes ad-hoc guidance, connections to people, opportunities, and resources, and/or focused projects. FY24-25 work included volunteering with the organizations, making network connections, supporting fund development, guiding strategic planning, speaking at community events, and sharing resources. This support supplements SV2s grant awards.
