Mission

Doctors for Drug Policy Reform (D4DPR) is organized and operated exclusively for charitable and educational purposes to advance public health through evidence-based drug policy reform. The organization educates policymakers, health professionals, and the public on the health effects of drug use and the consequences of drug laws; develops and disseminates scientific, clinical, and policy analyses; and promotes approaches that reduce harm, improve access to treatment, and decrease stigma associated with substance use disorders. D4DPR engages in nonpartisan research, education, and public health advocacy consistent with its mission to improve health outcomes and inform rational, science-driven drug policies

990-EZ for the year ended December 31, 2025

Program accomplishments

  • Expansion of Mission and Public Health Scope During the reporting period, D4DPR continued its transition from a cannabis-focused organization to a broader public health-oriented organization addressing drug policy across all illegal drugs. This expansion enabled the organization to engage a wider range of physicians, scientists, and health professionals; address emerging and complex drug-related public health issues; and contribute to national and international discussions on evidence-based, health-centered drug policy. This work supports the organization's charitable purpose by reducing stigma, improving public understanding, and promoting policies that enhance health outcomes.
    Expenses $226
  • Advancement of Evidence-Based Regulatory Standards D4DPR's work in developing standardized cannabis labeling and warnings continued to influence state-level regulatory frameworks. The International Intoxication Cannabinoid Product Symbol (IICPS), developed with D4DPR involvement, has been adopted in multiple states and is under consideration in additional jurisdictions. Standardized warning language developed by D4DPR has also been adopted at the state level. These efforts contribute to improved consumer awareness, product safety, and consistency in public health messaging.
    Expenses $226
  • Education and Dissemination of Scientific and Policy Information D4DPR provided education to healthcare professionals, policymakers, and the public through webinars, written publications, and media engagement. Educational topics included hemp-derived cannabinoids, international drug policy, psychedelics, overdose prevention strategies, and treatment for substance use disorders. The organization produced and disseminated position papers and policy analyses addressing cannabis scheduling, overdose prevention centers, and related issues. Outreach activities included webinars, op-eds, letters to the editor, and media appearances, expanding access to evidence-based information and supporting informed decision-making.
    Expenses $2,495
  • Development of the Health Advocacy Toolkit With grant support, D4DPR developed a comprehensive Health Advocacy Toolkit designed to train healthcare professionals in effective, evidence-based public health advocacy. The toolkit includes policy briefs, fact sheets, and instructional modules on engaging with legislative and regulatory processes, preparing written and oral testimony, and communicating scientific information to policymakers. This initiative increases the capacity of clinicians to participate in public health policy discussions and promotes the dissemination of accurate, science-based information.
    Expenses $15,857
  • D4DPR launched Physicians for Opioid Settlement Equity (POSE), an initiative aimed at promoting the equitable and evidence-based allocation of opioid settlement funds. This initiative is focused on New York and New Jersey. POSE engages physicians and other healthcare professionals to educate policymakers and the public on effective uses of settlement funds, including treatment access, harm reduction services, and prevention strategies. This initiative advances public health by supporting the allocation of resources toward interventions with demonstrated effectiveness in reducing overdose and improving outcomes for individuals with substance use disorders.
    Expenses $113
  • Coalition Participation and Collaborative Public Health Efforts D4DPR actively participated in national and state-level coalitions focused on drug policy reform and public health. Through these collaborations, the organization contributed medical and scientific expertise to policy discussions, educational initiatives, and public communications. Participation in coalitions enhances the organization's ability to disseminate evidence-based information, amplify its impact, and support coordinated approaches to improving drug policy and health outcomes.
    Expenses $266
