Mission
The mission of the FACT Relief Foundation is to support families suddenly battling a debilitating and/or terminal disease as well as other catastrophic life events that may impact the ability of the head of the household to provide for the family.
Program accomplishments
- Accident and Injury FundThe Accident and Injury Fund prioritizes support for individuals impacted by accidents or injuries. The financial burden of spinal cord and brain injuries can exceed $1,000,000 within the first year of injury, with lifetime costs ranging from$100,000 to $3,000,000. These expenses encompass hospitalization, therapies, home healthcare, specialized equipment such as custom wheelchairs and Hoyer lifts, and medical procedures. The ongoing financial strain can profoundly affect families as they navigate a loved one's rehabilitation journey. While immediate costs are daunting, it is the long-term care expenses that continue to impact families' daily lives. Our aim is to alleviate some of this burden for our beneficiaries by providing support for daily therapies, respite care through home healthcare aides, and assistance with uninsured medical expenses such as transportation and communication devices. Notably, all beneficiaries in this fund are under 18 years old, further emphasizing the enduring financial challenges faced by these families.Brian Parker Enhanced Quality of Life (EQOL)ProgramThe EQOL program is structured to support individuals living with paralysis by addressing the financial burdens associated with continuous caregiving. We help to mitigate these expenses and facilitate caregivers in coordinating care through a network of localized resources tailored to the unique needs of those with paralysis.Launched in 2021, this program primarily aims to offer respite care for caregivers. Leveraging the personal experience of our Associate Director, who intimately understands the challenges of ALS caregiving through her late husband's decade - long battle with the disease, FACT Relief is uniquely positioned to understand and address the intricate needs of paralyzed individuals and their caregivers. Our established connections within the ALS community further enhance our ability to provide effective support to our beneficiaries. In collaboration with the Emory ALS Center and the ALS United of Georgia and other non-profits, FACT Relief diligently identifies eligible beneficiaries for this program. We facilitate direct payments to service providers on behalf of families in need and collaborate with them to devise innovative solutions to ensure caregivers receive fair compensation for their unique services. The EQOL program extends grants of up to $3,000 annually to assist families in covering out-of- pocket caregiving expenses for paralyzed patients and we continue to seek funding for growth. The overwhelmingly positive feedback from our program recipients underscored its success in its inaugural year, and we eagerly anticipate extending this support to many more families grappling with paralysis.Cardiovascular FundThe Cardiovascular Fund is committed to assisting individuals grappling with cardiovascular issues such as heart attacks or strokes. Such patients often undergo significant life alterations, enduring lengthy hospitalizations, and rehabilitation periods. Families affected by these conditions may face financial hardships, including unmanageable medical expenses, income loss, and major lifestyle adjustments. Our objectives include providing support for medical bills, covering daily expenses during recovery, and facilitating access to essential medical devices. Through these efforts, our aim is to alleviate the financial strain on patients and families navigating the challenges of cardiovascular diseases.Neurological FundThe Neurological Fund is dedicated to aiding individuals grappling with neurological diseases such as ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), Muscular Dystrophy, and Parkinson's. These conditions impose significant financial burdens, with average out-of-pocket expenses exceeding $250,000 annually, particularly due to the necessity of continuous care.Respite or in-home care provided by home healthcare agencies often costs between $18-$25 per hour, expenses typically not covered by insurance or Medicare. Additionally, many patients require wheelchair-accessible vans for transportation to appointments, further adding to the financial strain on families, who may endure significant stress and even face bankruptcy as a result. Family caregivers experience profound exhaustion, depression, and isolation while caring for their loved ones with neurological diseases. The impact on both patients and their families is immense, and the Neurological Fund aims to offer support to alleviate these challenges and enhance their quality of life.Oncological FundThe Oncological Fund supports individuals with cancer. The expenses related to a cancer diagnosis and treatment include hospital stays, clinic visits, medications, tests, surgeries, procedures, home health services, and professional medical services. While insurance covers much of these expenses, there are often significant out-of-pocket costs. Patients frequently experience a loss of income and require daily care during chemotherapy or radiation treatment periods. Families approach us seeking aid with daily living expenses, home healthcare requirements, and uninsured medical expenses. Our objective is to offer support to families with minimal savings, limited family or community assistance, and often lacking disability insurance to compensate for income loss. By providing financial assistance to these families battling cancer, we aim to enable them to remain in their homes with their loved ones, averting financial hardship.Project Hope ProgramThrough Project Hope, we actively seek families with young or dependent children who have faced a major loss of income due to a catastrophic injury or illness. We have witnessed the profound financial strain this places on families, often resulting in significant debt or, in more dire cases, bankruptcy.Eligible candidates complete our standard application process for evaluation. Upon acceptance, we work closely with beneficiaries to establish a budget for all uninsured medical expenses and essential household needs. Beneficiaries engage in our monthly bill submission and approval procedure, receiving financial guidance and support for managing medical payments.FACT Relief also collaborates closely with beneficiaries to maximize the utilization of state and federal programs, as well as other available resources. Once needs are identified and organized, FACT Relief oversees the administration of the program and directly pays vendors on behalf of the family, thereby alleviating some of the burdens associated with navigating a complex illness or injury.Quiet Hero Party ProgramThis program is for those who have been impacted by ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), to support families dealing with the tremendous financial burden that comes with such a disease. This program offers grants to families battling ALS and grants toward research and ALS programming. The Quiet Hero Party will celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2025.
