Mission
The primary purpose of Boston Rowing Federation, Inc. (BRF) is to foster, encourage, and support participation in Olympic and senior world championship rowing competitions and training for these events. Since its formation, BRF has fostered international amateur sports competition by supporting and developing elite athletes with the potential to compete in the Olympics, Paralympics and senior world championships.
Program accomplishments
- Boston Rowing Federation, Inc. fosters international amateur sports competition by supporting and developing elite athletes with the potential to compete in the Olympics, Paralympics and senior world championships by providing: - Training plans, daily coaching and support to athletes; - Grants to assist athletes with training and travel expenses; - Physical therapy and chiropractic services related to training and competing; - Nutritional and performance testing; - Equipment necessary to compete; and - Networking to assist athletes with finding gainful employment and housing opportunities that allow them to live and train in the greater-Boston area. Participants in BRF's programs must be of suitable age to compete in international competition, demonstrate the potential to be a medal contender at the Olympics or Paralympics, and make a multi-year commitment to training in Boston in order to receive support from BRF. Prospective BRF athletes submit a written application along with their rowing histories, and their candidacy is reviewed and approved by the BRF Performance Committee in consultation with qualified experts who may include national team coaches, the U.S. Rowing High Performance Director, and senior university rowing coaches. BRF expects that applicants for its program will meet U.S. senior team standards, and that applicants will commit to living and training in the greater Boston area for a four-year Olympic competition cycle. BRF expects that only up to around six athletes will qualify for to participate in BRF's program in a four-year Olympic competition cycle. Participants in BRF's programs are expected to train at the highest level and according to best practices. In addition to rowing, there is substantial cross training including weight lifting, yoga, running, biking and skiing. Most coaching is provided by senior level coaches on a volunteer basis, although BRF hires coaches when appropriate and necessary. In total, participants receive between four and twenty hours per week of training.Expenses $846
