Mission
A PURPOSEFUL RESCUE IS A 501C3 NON-PROFIT THAT SAVES DOGS FROM HIGH-KILL LOS ANGELES AREA SHELTERS.
Program accomplishments
- A PURPOSEFUL RESCUE IS A 501C3 NON-PROFIT THAT SAVES DOGS FROM HIGH-KILL LOS ANGELES AREA SHELTERS.There are many amazing dogs who get overlooked, or need a little extra work or care, and we aim to give those dogs a second chance. We strongly believe that we will not adopt our way out of the problem of pet overpopulation, which is why we focus heavily on prevention and community outreach. Primarily focused on South Central Los Angeles, we promote spay and neuter and education. We rely on the hard work and dedication of our volunteers.Summary of Successes and Achievements -APR provides critically needed veterinary care to adoptable dogs, many of whom are older and require lifelong care and treatment. Our partnership with Downtown Dog Rescue and SpayforLA expands access to spay and neuter procedures for low-income households. Our Adoption Day Events at Platform 8850 Washington Blvd in Culver City are an opportunity to showcase a select group of our wonderful adoptable dogs while socializing with themAPR is a foster based organization. Our fosters, and volunteers who support them, are the backbone of what we do we can't save the overlooked, medically in-need or senior pups without them. While we find some of the most magical of dogs in our local shelters, that doesn't mean they're always ready to go right into a permanent home. The leadership, love, daily care, socialization and basic training our fosters provide prepares our dogs to transition successfully into new forever homes.Foster South LA (FSLA) is a community program created by Blue Man Dog, A Purposeful Rescue, a few dedicated shelter volunteers, and Los Angeles Animal Services (LAAS) that runs six shelters in LA. The goal is to alleviate some of the overcrowding in the shelters by getting medium to large dogs fostered, and then adopted. APRs annual calendar celebrates our amazing dogs. The featured dogs won a spot in the calendar through a fundraiser and were photographed by Shuttermutt Photo, the calendar sponsor. All proceeds from the sale of the calendar support A Purposeful Rescue in their ongoing efforts to save "magical unicorns". Calendars are for sale on our website.Statistics - In 2023, APR rescued 285 dogs of which 215 were adopted, while 70 were cared for by our foster volunteers In 2024, APR rescued 274 dogs of which 233 were adopted, while 41 were cared for by our foster volunteers In 2025, APR rescued 286 dogs of which 255 were adopted, while 28 were cared for by our foster volunteers (3 passed away from age/illness/quality of life)Expenses $577,765
