Program accomplishments

  • This first concert of the season was at Westwood Baptist Church and featured the never before recorded Grande Symphonie de Salon No. 2 by Anton Reicha, that was only recently discovered in 2017, and only recently made available; and the Octet in F major by Franz Schubert, which is rarely performed on period instruments. The Reicha Grande Symphonie is orchestrated for woodwind and string quartet plus double bass, and the Schubert is orchestrated for string quartet, plus double bass, clarinet, horn, and bassoon. We held this concert on Sunday October 5th, and this concert is always completely free to the public. Our Holiday House Concert was held at the home of Steve and Kristen Hess in Raleigh on December 13th. This concert featured soprano Salome Sandoval and bass Gary Poster singing advent, Christmas, and New Year's cantatas by Telemann, Graupner, J.S. Bach, and others. "Symphonies of Paris" took place on March 15th, 2026 at Hayes Barton United Methodist Church in Raleigh. Raleigh Camerata performed Haydn's Symphony in A major No. 87, Sergii Leontiev's Little Bachiana, and end with Reicha's Symphony in E-flat major Op 41. This performance was also the culmination performance for the winners of our third annual High School Baroque Residency competition where students joined us for the performance of Haydn's Symphony in A major. For the final concert of our season, we presented a South American Baroque program at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Cary on Sunday, May 17th. This concert showcased the rich and diverse musical heritage of Baroque composers who lived and worked in South America, including both European immigrants and the first generation of South American-born composers. Many of these works, preserved in small manuscript collections in South American archives and cathedrals, are only now becoming accessible beyond their countries of origin. The program will featured vocal soloists Salomé Sandoval (soprano), Karyn Freidman Poster (mezzo soprano), Ben Musachio (tenor), and Gary Poster (bass), along with a violins, flute, cello, and harpsichord. The repertoire included works by Tomás de Torrejón y Velasco, Rafael Antonio Castellanos, José de Orejón y Aparicio, Manuel José de Quirós, and others. This concert aimed to bring exceptional, yet not often performed, music to our community. By sharing these compositions, we hope to broaden awareness of South American Baroque music, provide audiences with a deeper appreciation for its historical and cultural significance, and offer a program in which more people in our community can see their heritage reflected. We preceded the concert with a lecture and discussion on the musical landscape of the time, exploring why so many European musicians emigrated to South America and how their work intertwined with indigenous and local traditions to create a unique and vibrant musical fusion. Number of people benefited from our programs: Roughly 700.
