Mission

Global Doing Good (GDG) partners with educators to provide unique learning experiences that inspire young people to better their communities and themselves. Our vision is to empower middle school students to become informed global citizens who maintain a lifelong commitment to service.Global Doing Good is dedicated to transforming middle school students into lifelong "changemakers." GDGs unique strategy centers on radical youth agency. By providing micro-funding, educational travel, and global immersion, we bridge the gap between classroom theory and real-world civic action.

Program accomplishments

  • Global Doing Good had three mission and program service accomplishment sectors during the fiscal year detailed below. The Benjamin Project:The Benjamin Project empowers students to lead community service initiatives through $100 seed grants. We partner with middle school educators to nominate students who then have 90 days to plan and execute a project to better their local community. This program builds civic literacy and resourcefulness by putting direct social responsibility in the hands of young leaders.Accomplishments: Awarded seed funding to 296 middle school students nationwide. The participants launched diverse projects, including animal welfare initiatives, food security drives, and fundraising for local special needs organizations. With an initial $29,600 in total grants, students generated an additional $19,003 in cash alone. When combined with in-kind services, the total return exceeded the original investment, significantly expanding the project's impact.Educational Travel Scholarships:We award U.S. Civics Travel Scholarships to students based on demonstrated character, integrity, and a commitment to civic engagement. Recipients are selected through a competitive essay process designed to identify future leaders. These grants provide the funding necessary for students to participate in educational travel, ensuring that meritrather than economic statusdictates access to global citizenship opportunities.Accomplishments: Provided scholarship funding to individual recipients. These grants facilitated participation in civic-focused travel and academic excursions that reinforce lifelong service habits and cross-cultural understanding.Service Learning Trips:Our Service Learning Trips offer alumni of our programs and students from underserved communities the chance to engage in hands-on, career-focused immersion experiences. By connecting classroom learning with real-world application, we deepen students' understanding of global citizenship and professional paths within the nonprofit and community service sectors.Accomplishments: Successfully facilitated a transformative service-learning trip for a group of Title I students enrolled in a Veterinary Technology program. This immersive 3 day trip to San Diego provided these students with rare, direct exposure to professional veterinary work, wildlife conservation, and community animal welfare initiatives. The program combined technical skill-building with guided reflection on how specialized vocational skills can be used to serve the public good.
