Mission

THE PRINCIPAL GOALS OF JUNEAU CLIMBING AND RECREATION ARE TO PROMOTE PHYSICAL EDUCATION FOR OUR YOUTH AND OTHER MEMBERS OF OUR COMMUNITY AND ENCOURAGE INDOOR CLIMBING TO IMPROVE PERSONS STRENGTH, BALANCE, CONFIDENCE AND PHYSICAL FITNESS. WE MAINTAIN A HIGH DEGREE OF FLEXIBILITY IN OVERSEEING THE ROCK DUMPS SPACE TO PROVIDE GREATER OPPORTUNITIES AND RESPOND TO THE COMMUNITYS EVER-GROWING INTERESTS, ESPECIALLY TO PROVIDE A SAFE INDOOR SPACE THAT PROMOTES PHYSICAL ACTIVITY DESPITE ALASKAS INCLEMENT WEATHER.

  • JCR OPERATED THE ROCK DUMP CLIMBING GYM. THE FACILITY SERVES FIRST TIME CLIMBERS, TRAVELERS, SCHOOL GROUPS, AND NEARLY 200 MEMBERS. ALONG WITH OFFERINGS FOR CLIMBING WE OFFER COACHING, YOUTH PROGRAMS, AND INSTRUCTION FOR THOSE LOOKING TO GET MORE OUT OF THEIR CLIMBING. OUTSIDE OF OUR REGULAR HOURS, WE ALSO OFFER TIME FOR LOCAL SCHOOLS RANGING FROM PRIMARY TO COLLEGE TO USE THE FACILITY FOR EDUCATION AND RECREATION.

  • JRC COORDINATES COMMUNICATIONS BETWEEN GOVERNMENT AND PRIVATE PARTNERS AND MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY TO SECURE ACCESS TO AND IMPROVE SAFETY OF OUTDOOR CLIMBING AREAS IN JUNEAU, ALASKA. EFFORTS INCLUDE ARRANGING FOR PERMITTED LAND USE, TRAIL IMPROVEMENT, AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH.
