Program accomplishments

  • FAIR UNIVERSE: This is a program in collaboration with Lawrence Berkeley Labs: https://fair-universe.lbl.gov/. The collaboration is building a large-compute-scale AI platform for the hosting of large scientific datasets, models, and machine learning competitions to drive forward discoveries in high energy physics and cosmology. The initial focus is on discovering and minimizing systematic uncertainties in High Energy Physics through a sequence of challenges that will bring together researchers across physics and machine learning. ChaLearn sponsors a PhD student and a freelance engineer. The expenses this include the salary of the PhD student (via a donation made to Université Paris-Saclay), and prizes and travel awards given to challenge participants and organizers.
    Expenses $65,330 · grants $9,969
  • LAP PROGRAM: The Looking at People (LAP) challenge series in computer vision is organized in collaboration with Universitat Barcelona https://chalearnlap.cvc.uab.cat/. This year we sponsored the Face anti-spoofing, ICCV 2025 https://sites.google.com/view/face-anti-spoofing-challenge/welcome. Together Codalab and Codabench hold a strong position compared to Kaggle and Tianchi: https://mlcontests.com/state-of-competitive-machine-learning-2025. The code is open-sourced: https://github.com/codalab/codalab-competitions/issues. We are editing a book on challenges and benchmarks: https://sites.google.com/chalearn.org/book/home. We supported the editing work.
