Mission

The mission of San Francisco Achievers is to inspire and empower African-American young men in the San Francisco Unified School District to succeed in college and postsecondary institutions.

990 for the year ended June 30, 2025

Program accomplishments

  • Each year, SFA provides scholarships to qualified recipients who maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher and are enrolled in at least 12 academic units. Last year, SFA awarded scholarships to 23 new recipients, achieving an 84% college matriculation rate. Among active scholars, 20% were placed into internships, and students completed a collective 146 hours of Ambassador meeting engagement. SFA currently serves 83 active scholars, with six additional scholars graduating across the fall, spring, and summer terms.
    Expenses $347,806 · grants $256,125
  • During the 20242025 school year, SFA provided comprehensive support at Burton High School, including individualized 1:1 advising, 70 lunchtime workshops, and access to an HBCU college tour attended by two Achievers. Through this support, Burton participants achieved a 100% high school graduation rate and 100% college matriculation rate. SFA served 30 young men at Burton through a structured series of workshops focused on financial literacy, college readiness, career pathways, and socialemotional development.
    Expenses $184,236
  • During the 20242025 school year, 10 young men across SFUSD completed eight Saturday sessions over the span of eight months. These sessions included leadership training led by SFA staff, work site visits to Glacier and Recology, college tours to the University of San Francisco (USF) and UC Berkeley, and scholarship workshops designed to support students in completing applications that help reduce their financial responsibility for college. Additionally, two participants attended the HBCU college tour for expanded exposure to higher education pathways.
    Expenses $89,859
  • SFA's mentoring program connects scholars with volunteer mentors who guide them throughout their college journey. Through this support, scholars receive personalized feedback and advice on navigating college life and preparing for future careers. The program is opt-in, encouraging students to take ownership of their learning while actively seeking guidance. Currently, 50% of scholars are successfully matched with mentors, allowing them to build meaningful, long-term relationships, strengthen professional networks, and gain the skills and confidence needed to achieve academic and career success.
    Expenses $87,692
