Program accomplishments

  • D.R.I.V.E. TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION, CAREER PATHWAYS & COMMUNITY ACCESS Project K4 provides technology education, career exploration, mentorship, workforce readiness, and community-access programming that connects youth, families, emerging creators, and underserved communities with educational and professional opportunities in science, technology, engineering, interactive entertainment, robotics, aerospace, digital media, and emerging industries. Through hands-on workshops, demonstrations, mentoring, collaborative projects, career and industry presentations, community technology events, portfolio development, entrepreneurship education, and experiential learning, participants gain practical exposure to technologies and the people and professions that use them. Project K4 also creates opportunities for participants to engage with educators, cultural practitioners, developers, creators, entrepreneurs, businesses, nonprofit organizations, industry professionals, and other community partners. The program is particularly designed to reduce economic, educational, geographic, cultural, and other barriers that can limit participation by Indigenous and Pacific Islander communities, underserved populations, youth, families, and emerging creators in rapidly developing technology sectors. D.R.I.V.E. provides multiple entry points into technology education so that participants introduced through recreation, gaming, cultural programming, community events, or informal learning can progress into increasingly advanced technical, creative, educational, and career-development opportunities. The program's immediate objectives are to increase access to technology education, digital and technical literacy, career awareness, practical skills, confidence, participation, and exposure to educational and professional opportunities. Its longer-term objective is to establish connected pathways through which participants can progress from initial exposure and experiential learning to sustained education, mentorship, portfolio and project development, industry-recognized credentials, postsecondary education, entrepreneurship, internships, employment, and leadership opportunities. Project K4 measures program accomplishments through the number of individuals served; instructional, mentoring, and career-development sessions provided; workshops, demonstrations, and community events conducted; partnerships and collaborative activities established; participant projects and portfolios completed; educational and career referrals or opportunities provided; and participant progression into additional education, training, credentialing, entrepreneurship, internships, or employment. When exact statistical information is unavailable, Project K4 reports reasonable estimates and identifies those figures as estimated. Through D.R.I.V.E., Project K4 seeks to build an accessible bridge between community-based learning and the technology economy, enabling participants not merely to use emerging technologies, but to develop the knowledge, skills, experience, relationships, and opportunities necessary to become creators, innovators, entrepreneurs, and members of the future workforce.
