Mission

Our mission is to supplement and enrich the theological and ministerial education being offered in seminaries and universities, with academic courses and other activities directly addressing Hispanic history, ministry, and theology.

990 for the year ended September 30, 2025

Program accomplishments

  • The Hispanic Scholars Program is a nonprofit organization of theological education that offers educational, professional development, and mentorship programs to those supporting the next generation of leaders who accompany Hispanic/Latine communities. There are currently around 38 schools ("Sponsors") the HSP partners with in fulfilling this mission. Each Sponsor contributes $4,500 per year to the HSP's operating budget. The Hispanic Scholars Program (HSP) normally offers five or six choices of 3-credit, accredited courses geared toward master-degree level students enrolled in theological seminaries and university departments of theology or religion. In fiscal year 2025, the HSP offered six 3-credit courses. We had 40 participants from the U.S., representing a wide variety of traditions, denominations, and theological perspectives. The HSP provides the opportunity for students to study with peers and professors of a variety of backgrounds who are committed to the Hispanic/Latine community in the United States.
    Expenses $113,950 · revenue $34,375
  • El SemilleroEl Semillero was offered for the fourth time in FY 2025 and 11 participants attended. Practitioners committed to the Hispanic/Latine community were invited to learn about the soil of fundraising, finance, and development so that they can grow their missional organizationswhether they be churches,non-profits, or institutions of higher and theological educationin ways that are economically sustainable and can, as a result, provide a greater impact for their communities of concern. Through El Semillero we hope to empower theological leaders with practical tools that will help them build sustainable and equitable institutions that can positively impact the Hispanic/Latine community in the United States for generations to come.
    Expenses $48,758 · revenue $7,500
  • OTHER PROGRAMS:Through Hispanic Eyes (THE) is a cultural competency training program that HSP has facilitated for over two decades. Participants in this workshop are institutional leaders who come together to learn about the particularities of the Latine/Hispanic experience in university and seminary programs. This program overlaps with our Summer Session program so THE participants have the opportunity to engage graduate students in higher and theological education from across institutional contexts. T.H.E. seeks to engage and gather in constructive and critical conversations with seminary presidents, academic deans, faculty, as well as those very important staff members who work with students, admissions officers and student life directors. In fiscal year 2025, 8 participants attended this program.
    Expenses $39,006 · revenue $6,000
