The camp exposing them to careers they may not otherwise encounter due to financial or environmental barriers.Because many participating students have had fewer opportunities for experiential learning, the program incorporates weekly career aligned field trips that broaden their understanding of the professional world and help them envision themselves in spaces they may not have previously considered accessible. This program will be free to these kids.
Program accomplishments
- The Kids Career & Education Center Summer Pathways Program serves underprivileged middle and high school students in Columbus City Schools, with a particular focus on youth from low socioeconomic backgrounds who often face limited access to enrichment opportunities, career exploration, and academic support during the summer months. The program is intentionally designed to close opportunity gaps by providing an intensive 8 week, career focused learning experience that helps students build clear, attainable pathways for life after graduation. The curriculum is rigorous and aligned with Ohio's Alternative Graduation Requirements. These modules are structured to give students practical, transferable skills while also exposing them to careers they may not otherwise encounter due to financial or environmental barriers. Because many participating students have had fewer opportunities for experiential learning, the program incorporates weekly career aligned field trips that broaden their understanding of the professional world and help them envision themselves in spaces they may not have previously considered accessible. Competitive challenges throughout the summer reinforce real world problem solving, teamwork, and leadership skills that are especially critical for students navigating economic hardship or unstable home environments. This tangible record of achievement is particularly meaningful for students who may not always see their strengths reflected in traditional academic settings. The Summer Pathways Program ultimately equips underprivileged youth with practical skills, exposure to high demand industries, and a stronger sense of direction as they prepare for their futures beyond high school. It serves as both an academic intervention and an empowerment initiative, helping students build confidence, agency, and long term aspirations despite the socioeconomic challenges they face.
